Running.....is something that I love to hate. Every since I've been in the military it has been a requirement of our physical activity.
Before I deployed to Iraq, some friends of mine and I decided that we would participate in the local 5k races in our area. The intent was to start our weight loss regime and our goal was to complete a 26.2 mile marathon.
I said that to say this, an opportunity has come for me to participate in a 13.1 mile marathon. One for which I'm not looking forward to. In my regular run work outs, I've only gotten up to 4 miles at one time about 3 days a week.
To be honest, I'm terrified. It's almost like pulling teeth to get me through those four. My goal now is to concentrate on enjoying running and to get past the love hate relationship with it.
I'm signing up today for the 13.1! I'll worry about the 26.2 another day. I'll just take the next couple of weeks in stride....yeah, that's it, in stride. Whew! Good luck to me! I'm going to need it.

Hi there, from Chicago, IL!
Hello, I have another blogging friend who suggested I visit your page. I too am a "runner", and I hate it while I'm doing it, but love the sense of accomplishment afterwards. Come visit my blog and read about my adventure, on my weight loss journey and quest to run the Chicago Marathon in October. I'm also signed up to do a half marathon in August. BTW, you might want to check out some of the training plans for half marathons and other distances at www.halhigdon.com .
If you don't mind my asking, what specifically is your "job" in Iraq? I can't imagine what you're going through. Is Iraq like it's potrayed on the evening news/cable news, or reality check, is it 20 times worse, or what? Sorry, I know that's a heavy question, so don't bother answering if you don't have time or don't want to.
Anyway, keep up the good work, you'll be running that half marathon before you know it.
I'll be checking back regularly...I hope you don't mind if I add you to my "friends list."
Good luck with your marathon run! I know it must be hard but with hard work and dedication you can achieve your goal. Im too heavy to run, what i do is walk. Its still good exercise, once i loose more weight I would like to run in a marathon for once in my life. Have an awesome weekend!
You can do it girl. I have faith in you. I feel the same way you do about running. I loved what it did for me, but I hated to actually do it. After I hurt my foot, I hated it even more. I do miss our group runs and exercise together, so I can't wait until you get home. You definitely kept us going!! (Drill Seargant)
Does your 13.1 opportunity happen to be in conjunction with the Indpls Mini Marathon? Our training group is sponsoring our heros in Iraq with a virtual Mini. It is the first Saturday in May. Bless you for your commitment to our freedom--thank you!
It amazes me that while you're over in Iraq, defending our country, you're still disciplined enough to start living a healthy lifestyle. I am blessed to have you!
Anyway, good luck with your mini-marathon. People who run inspire me. . . . I'm looking forward to following your journey.
You sound motivated enough to me. I want to be able to run. My knees don't agree, though. Keep up the good work and thanks for going to Iraq for us! I, for one, appreciate it! Funny, short story. I found out a co-worker went to Desert Storm. I thanked her. She said, "Trust me, I didn't want to!". Just thought it was kind of funny. Good luck!
I started out just like you. I used to hate hate hate running but I wanted to do it because my parents really enjoyed it and I wanted to lose weight. But I have come to absolutely love running, and I know not everyone comes to that point but I wanted to let you know what could happen. (my husband has been in the USMC for 23 years and he still hates running!) I have progressed to running 2 miles to finishing 5k, 10k, half marathons and 2 full marathons and have a few planned for 2007. If ever you need some motivation or advice feel free to check in on my blog or contact me.
Good luck on your half-marathon! I look forward to following your progress and congratulating you on your completion!! Remember: Pain fades, but pride is forever!!
