So today at work, I picked up the much talked about, Skinny Bitch book. I was going to buy it but after scanning/reading a few pages I decided not to. I don't know how many of you have read the book, or even heard of it but it's crazy. It's not that the vulgar language and the constant calling of us non-followers "pussies" offended me but I didn't like the message they were giving.

Don't read the following if you want to read the book and haven't:

But I didn't like how they basically were saying if you don't eat organic than you're wrong and that's why you're unhealthy. I didn't like how they used to "scare" tactic to get people to eat organic foods. I mean it's ok to say organic is best and base your diet book on those foods and give the reasons why to eat organic but WHY go into major detail about how non-organic food is processed. I didn't like how they used the scare tactics about eating meat because of the situations on the "farms" it's ok to mention it by why is 1/3 of the book about that? I mean, it's ok to educate your reader but it made me feel like to be "skinny" you have to eat organic and be vegan. I think it's kind of misleading with the title...You think you're going to read a witty book about how to get in shape but it's totally NOT that...Or atleast that's how I thought. That's just the jist. There's more but if you want to experience it you can pick it up at your local bookstore/Target.

With that said, I'm not against orgnaic foods, I think they are healthy and would eat them if I had the money but limited budget means limited amount of choice. That's another problem I have with the book, they go on to bash people that don't eat organic saying how the spend mass amounts of money on jewelry, clothes,etc...but won't spend it on organic food, which is true but there are some that just can't afford it. And if meat and non organic veggies and fruits are so bad why hasn't the USDA and FDA done something about it or atleast warned Americans?

Ok, I'm done on this topic, I could ramble for hours, lol.

Today was a HORRIBLE day with eating. Today I had 1.5 donuts and 11 donut holes AND a McSkillet breakfast burrito from McDonalds for breakfast...I couldn't decide which I wanted so I got both, WTF is that about?! That's just plain glutony. I don't know what's with me and these cravings and these eating habits but I've got to get it under control! I can't start WW if my eating habits are horrible, it will make it THAT much harder to stick to plan.

I felt so bad for eating so horrible for breakfast I skipped lunch. Just had a bottle of water and it was a lunch with ALL my co-workers. I played it off by telling an funny story about an employee and it took the time up.

Then for dinner I had a [nother] craving for chinses. So I have general tso's chicken, boubon chicken and chow mein. WEIGH too much but it was really good. I guess my mind is telling me to eat all of this because on Tuesday it's back to reality. Sad thing is my body is rejecting the bad food. I have tummy aches, face breaking out, etc...it sucks but it's over!

Got in an argument with the bf and he's not coming...I'm REALLY-REALLY mad but what can I do? He didn't do things my way so I got mad, said things I probably shouldn't have but felt I had to then we didn't talk for the rest of the day. The bff backed out of coming (she lives 3 hours away) so now I'm here in my apt all alone like I have been for the last 3 weeks. I think that's what is causing the emotional eating and just depressed moods for me. Ugh! I'll be glad when school starts so I can atleast have reading and class work and mtgs to bury myself into. This crap is for the birds....

Ok, I'm off to fall asleep to a movie, have a good weekend ladies!

I probably won't be back until Tuesday evening with an update from the meeting. Pray for me girls, I definately NEED it!!

Today's quote:
Never give up on the future because the present is tough.

Sorry

you're lonely...it's a big time emotional eating trigger for me.  But stay strong- we all have bad days.  And you can do this!  You can get back on track, and WW will help!

As for the Skinny Bitch Book, I really liked it up until they said no meat/no animal products.  I can't handel that.  But I think they were right about the no white bread/sugar/asparteme stuff.  It is the best way to be healthy...but if you get through the whole thing, at the end they confess that the book is constructed to enourage veganism more than weight loss.  Pooh.

So I took it as more info to feed to the weightloss fire, and moved on.  Hope your weekend is good, and that you stay strong and focused.

Aw man!

I would come see ya if you lived closer.  I HATE that we are all so far apart.  I mean, I get great support here, but imagine if we could see each other in person whenever we needed a hug.  But, then, would it still be the same?  Who knows.

And just because somebody is skinny doesn't mean they are healthy.  I mean, the scientific way to lose weight is just to expend more calories than you take in.  And there are so many different ways to do that.  What works for me may not work for you.  But I'm not going to bash your way.  I hate that.  Thanks for the "review" on the book.  I WON'T be checking that one out.

Oh, and I think that road rage MIGHT be safer than sleeping behind the wheel.  Just a thought.  LOL!

Hope You Feel Better

Sorry you going through a rough time right now, but just know that things will get better.

As for Weight Watchers you can eat  WHATEVER YOU WANT (Thats if you are on the point system) So you don't have to feel guilty about what you eat, you just have to eat in moderation, but becareful on how you spend those points because depending on what you eat they can add up quickly, especially if you are eating empty calories. So my advice is to spend those points wisely on foods that keep you felling full. Have a good one,

Miss V

Calorie counts

I go off what my Polar heart rate monitor (l LOVE that thing!) tells me for calories burned during a workout.  Although the battery is dying and it is giving me crazy info right now, so I guess it could be wrong, but it sounds about right. The treadmill always says I burned more, but it doesn't know my height/weight/age.

That is another factor to consider as far as our differences, age. I am quite a bit longer in the tooth than you, LOL! and that makes a difference as well. Apparently you get more "efficient" as you get older. Great wrinkles, saggy, dimply ass AND I burn fat slower, AWESOME!

Sorry you are having a tough time. My eating was CRAZY over the holiday and I am in the process of reigning it in as well. (Damn those f-ing donut holes! I love those little suckers SOOOO much! They must love me too, because they stick around on my ass FOREVER!)

Oh and about Skinny Bitch. I totally agree. I checked it out as well, because, let's be honest, I liked the title, but it wasn't for me. Too inflammatory, to strict, just too much.

Take care of you!

Skinny Bitch

I think I'm one of the few people who really liked it. Granted, I had become a vegetarian about a week prior to reading it, so a lot of the things in the book were things I was already thinking. And some of the stuff does make perfect sense. Since reading the book, I've really cut down on my caffeine and alcohol intake. I don't eat everything organic and I am not a vegan, but I took what I could from the book and went with that. Still, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I'm sorry you didn' t like the book. At least you didn't waste your money on it!

Are you ready to get back on track with me? We've got to stop eating everything in sight (both of us!). It is just not healthy. I'm so excited for you to be starting WW on Tuesday. I expect a full report!

Awww...

Thank you for the support. That really means a lot to me. Today has been a really good day so far. How about you? Are you getting back on track? I will be here to support you, too, no matter what! We can do this!

Oh and definitely steal my idea (well, it was gettinfit's idea! haha!). As long as it helps, that is all that matters.

Yep

I know, I started Skinny Bitch and was a bit taken aback by the language. I mean, real women don't use the word "pussies". I have been known to cuss, but every other word is the "f" word. Give me a break. I haven't gotten to the much talked about chapter about meat--can't go there. I do agree with some of what they say, but not all of it. I'll never give up my coffee! LOL

I tried one of those McSkillet burritos and they are awful. If we just stick to a McMuffin, it's only 380 calories-even less if you take off one of the muffins. Well, live & learn is all I can say.

Praying for a great weigh in on Tuesday!!!

The 'Organic' Craze

I honestly think it's another fad and another way for companies to make money.  Think of how many companies have an "organic product line" now.  It has nothing to do with health.  It's all about pushing a product combined with a feeling of guilt.  Geesh.  And I have friends who think like this. If you're not eating organic and saving the planet every waking moment,  you must be the devil in disguise.  PULEEZE.

I read some reviews on this book on Amazon.com.  Many people like it but then again, many people don't.  Personally, if someone wants me to take them seriously, repeatedly using foul language (a sure sign of a lack of vocabulary not to mention intelligence) is NOT the way to do it.  Also, professionals are now questioning some of the "facts" in the book.  Scare tactics don't go over well with me, either.  So good for you for throwing the book back!

Check out the Eat Clean Diet!

~ Tracy

hey

now what is the title of this book???  my mil who is a major organic/homeopathic freak told me that even chicken that says organic only means it wasn't injected with chemicals.  it has nothing to do with how it was raised.  even 'free range' means it had a small are to run around but their beaks were still cut off.  Either way--- it's not any better--- well meat wise.

good luck girl!  we are here for you!

Awww

Ok, pick yourself and dust yourself off.

I don't think we'll be beating you up, you're doing a pretty good job of that all by yourself.

We all hit rough patches...dh and I fight when I don't get my way too. I just have to remind myself that the relationship takes two...give and take...and sometimes I give more shit than I take.

Skinny bitch...hmm...i don't think I'll be reading that one. Organic sounds great in theory...but I always have to wonder...

Anyway, have a great day!

Get back

on the saddle!! Things will be fine =D

I know what you mean when you talk about being all alone in your apartment. It sucks doesnt it?! I hope you see him soon...

Take care and good job on not buying the book..how dumb is that, justifying that being vegan is the way to go because meat is, ahem, get ready, DIRTY. OMG..some people just don't know how to argue can they???

Skinny Bitch

Lovely name for a book.  I don't think I'll be picking it up anytime soon.  I don't bother with organic foods either - way too expensive.

Happy New Year!

Angel

WHERE U ARE!

HEY!! ITS OKAY THAT YOU ARE FEELING THE WAY THAT YOU FEEL. YOU ARE NOT ALONE AND WE ALL HAVE BEEN THERE AND ALOT OF US ARE STILL WHERE YOU ARE, WITH THE EMOITIONAL OR BAD EATING HABITS AT TIMES. AS YOU CONTINUE ON YOUR JOURNEY AND EDUCATING YOURSELF ON BETTER EATING HABITS YOU WILL EAT BETTER, YOU WILL WANT TO EAT BETTER.

I HAVE HEARD OFTHE SKINNY BITCH BOOK BUT I HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO READ IT. I AM GLAD YOU GAVE ME AN INSIGHT INTO THE BOOK. THATS WHAT THE WEIGHTLOSS GAME IS ABOUT LEARING WHATS RIGHT AND WORKS FOR YOU..AND AVOIDING BOOKS THAT MIGHT LURE YOU OR DETOUR YOU FROM YOUR TRAIN OF THOUGHT..KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK! HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

HEIDI

Okay, let's do this!

Today is the day you start WW--a brand new day!  Yesterday is gone--forget it and focus on making better choices in the future.  I hope you and your bf patch things up soon--that way we can read more about the romantic things he does for you!
