I just returned from my first spinning class in years. I sweat. ALOT. I also feel totally wasted, which I know is because I was doing something different and not because I am out of shape (because, I know I am NOT out of shape at this point!) but it still sucks. I think I did pretty well, and I would like to keep going, but that means I have to shuffle my workout schedule a bit.
For those of you with an opinion on this, do you think that 45mins-1 hour of spinning, plus 20 mins of weights (alternating upper and lower body) four times a week is OK? I would probably swim the other two days. I really want to work towards participating in a triathalon, but I really miss my yoga/pilates work... I just don't want to give up my cardio for it. It's a big dilema for me. I was doing half hour tapes of pilates workouts, but the ones I have got boring, and I haven't bought new ones. Maybe I should get a couple new and do those so I don't feel totally without the pilates. I could also go to yoga and pilates classes in the evenings, but does 2-2 and a half hours of exercise qualify me as a freak or not? I am very conflicted on this. :)
Anyhow, Happy Friday! Hope it's great for everyone!

why not?
If you have the time and inclination to do all that exercise, why shouldn't you? I'm sure you won't work that hard forever--might as well take advantage of the motivation while you have it!
If I had time to do cardio 6 days a week and also squeeze in weights and yoga/pilates a few times I would be SO HAPPY. But as it is I'm driving myself nuts and not doing much at all because I can't do it all.
Also, I know swimming and biking (but not so sure about spinning?) are not hard on your joints, but working out tons and tons can make a girl prone to injury and just general burnout.
If the answers are "yes" and "no" respectively, go to it fierce one! I am envious of your fitness prowess!
You're doing so great with the exercise, it's hard to find fault there, but maybe you need to set aside a rest day and then you will always have the juice to push through tthe rest of the week. You could still be active that day, ie go for long walk or play softball or something, but a reward day. Wether or not I like, Friday has become my rest day. I go to the gym M-Th with a class and soem extra cardio or weights and pilates on Wednesday at lunch. I also walk 30 mins to work and 30 mins back M-F. I'm still a real "the weekends are my own" girl, but trying to find ways to get more active. I think I could committ to a long run on Saturdays.
For you though, If it ain't broke, don't fix it! :)
PS, I've joined in the humiliation of posting bikini pics. What have we done to ourselves? LOL
that much spin and you'll be a size 2 inside of a month! seriously, spin is insane. that and cardio kickbox are how i lost 10 lbs in like a month a few years back.
YOU DO NOT LOOK FAT! you are so lucky that you are not within arms reach of me, or i would put my kickboxing skills to use and smack you really hard. cute suit, btw... it looks really good on you (minus the fact that its too small).
I don't think that you would be in the 'freak category' doing 2 - 2 and 1/2 hours of exercise. Like Sara said, you need to make sure you are not hurting yourself though! And if you have the time and it makes you feel good- why the hell not?! Go for it girl! I have always been scared of spinning. Maybe if I join a gym again, I'll do it!!
Thanks for welcoming me to WW!! I have done Flex a few years back, but never stuck to it long enough to hit my 10%. I am hoping that since I am 1/2 to goal already, that this will get me the rest of the way!! I was going to do Core but I still had JC food left so I am doing Flex this week. Maybe I'll change it up in a week or so. What do you usually eat for breakfast? Are there any cereals that are Core friendly?
Keep up the awesome exercise! Buy yourself a new pilates tape!! You deserve it for crying out loud!!
I say give it a try. See how you do at doing all the things you want to at the gym (may as well try and get your money's worth) and then see how you feel. Let your body be your guide, and respect what it wants. I don't think it makes you a freak at all. If you are enjoying it and reaping the huge health benefits I don't see the harm.
If I had 2 hours to spend at the gym, I would do it so happily!!!! As it is, I blow thru my 65 minutes of cardio which leaves me little to no time to lift weights.
So if you have the time and the energy, and won't be stressing your body, then go for it sister!
So glad you went to a class - is it not the most insane workout you can think of? There's no way I'm going to motivate myself to sweat so much and work so hard on the dreadmill!!!
We need to start a spin club!
I do 3 classes per week and that has been great - the weeek that I did 4 classes (granted they were on consecutive days) it felt like a lot. BUt, whatever works for you. One thing I can tell you is that I am sure that a good part of my weight loss consistency is owed to spinnning!
