Swollen.
I woke up this morning with swollen fingers! I knew that I'd had some salty food yesterday.....but not enough to have such swelling. I sat around and thought about it all morning. And then I realized. I forgot my blood pressure pill last night. Darn it. I wonder sometimes if I REALLY need the pills. I've been on them since the birth of my son. I'd never had a blood pressure problem until my 38-week appt at which time they diagnosed me with pre-eclampsia. They gave me magnesium sulfate to lower the pressure.....and I've been on blood pressure pills ever since. I've been on a mission ever since to get off those darn pills! Well, this morning answered it. I have a slight headache and swollen fingers. I guess I need the blood pressure meds for now......
Yesterday:
B: smoothie made with banana, frozen strawberries, milk, 1/2 a bunch of spinach, protein powder, and peanut butter, black coffee
L: bowl of tortilla soup, shared some nachos
D: Italian chicken and rice casserole
2 mile walk
I need to work on the salt intake. That would help too....
I'm feeling good, though. Eating at home is gonna do wonders for me. I know it!

Wow. Just the things you listed for your food are sodium bombs! Losing weight will help you to be able to get off the meds, but there is a lot you can do to avoid sodium.
First, do your own cooking. Even reduced sodium prepared soups often contain way too much of it. One restaurant meal often contains enough sodium for an entire day.
Aim for no more than 2,000 mg of sodium per day. Since you are accustomed to extremely salty food, this will seem weird at first, but after a week or two away from it, you won't miss it, and many restaurant foods and snack foods will begin to taste bitter because of all the sodium.
For your own cooking, switch from table salt to sea salt or Kosher salt. Sea salt contains half the sodium of table salt.
To wash out your sodium-related water retention, drink plenty of water, have your water with lemon, and drink about three cups of green tea (Celestial Seasonings Decaf Mandarin Orchard green tea is wonderful), and have some asparagus. All these suggestions are mildly diuretic. B complex vitamins are good for it, too, but don't take them without checking with your doctor first, since you are on meds.
