Before After

This May Not Work

I just finished Day Two of Week One of C25K.  I'm not sure this program is going to work with me.  Now, before you start thinking I'm quitting before I've even begun, let me explain.  I'm not quitting.  I'm merely saying there's a possibility this isn't going to work

Monday, after Day One, I was in extreme pain.  Not my leg muscles, as one would think, but my back.  It really aggravated my sciatica.  I took a hot shower, laid on the heating pad many times, etc.  Had to take Tylenol PM to sleep.  Yesterday I did my typical walk around the neighborhood to stretch things out, and that felt really good.

I went out this morning before the supposed rain starts to get in Day Two.  My back was killing me after the second minute of running.  I went ahead and finished, albeit not at the pace I would have liked, and I didn't walk as far afterwards as I normally would, because I didn't want to aggravate anything any worse.  I've been through the losing weight, then hurting my back so I couldn't exercise anymore, and gaining weight back routine.  I don't want to do it again.

I would love to be able to run a 5K, but my body may just not be cut out to do that.  And I have to listen to my body.  I also need to get back into a gym routine, because the walking just isn't making the weight move.  Of course, that could also be blamed on the fact that I've been on the See Food Diet lately.  What in the world has gotten into me?!?!?!  FOOD!  Lots of it, and it's not good for me food either!!  ARGH!!!

I'm off to take a hot shower to minimize the damage to my back.  Make it a good day everyone!

Maybe not!

You may not be able to run.  I know last summer I had terrible issues with my knee and thought I'd never be able to run.  But as I lost some more weight, I tried again.  And the pain was less.  So, I'm just saying that you might want to try again later.  But maybe not.  That's fine.  There are so many other things you can do to exercise.  Running is so very hard on your joints.  Bad!  You definitely don't want to permanently injure yourself.  Be careful.

As for your comment...you haven't maintained?  You haven't lost?  Go ahead and say it, girl!  You gained.  Own it!  And them move on.  It's okay to have minor setbacks.  It's not the end of the world.  And you will lose it again.  Not a big deal.  I know it seems like it at the time.  But there's more to life than just your weigh ins.  You are getting healthier and you know it!

YOU ROCK!

Running

Definately listen to your body, ESPECIALLY when it comes to your back.  If its causing pain, Id take it easy on the runs too.  Keep walking, maybe even when you get back to the gym try walking 10 or 15 mins after just to strengthen the muscles that support that kind of motion.  Like TatumsMom said, eventually your body may be able to deal with it just fine, but you dont have to push it now.

Good luck with the food and exercise.  Ive been totally off track eatting too.  We CAN get refocused!

I feel your pain....

A few months ago, I was so excited to start the C25k and even made it into week 2, but my knees just were having none of it! My sister who is a nurse, told me I'd be sorry in 10 or 15 years when I'd be going in for knee replacements! So....I'm relegated to fast walking and gym workouts....I just have to accept it. I was like you and really wanted to join friends in running 5k's etc, but I have to realize that its not in the cards for me. Take care of your back....nothing worse than back pain!

Hey there!

Thanks for stopping by.    Always love to hear from you.   Come on up anytime.

Thanks for reminding me to "focus on progress not perfection."

Wanna know another quote I like...

"The past does not equal the future!"

It reminds me that whatever has been done, is done. You can't do a thing about it.  What you can do is focus on making a plan, and move in the direction that you want to take this.

Fortunately for you, you have gained some AWESOME knowledge and habits along this journey.  I know it FEELS like your wollering in the BAD habits right now, but you can change that immediately. You can break that cycle.  YOU CAN!!!!  You are going to find that "getting back on track" is actually kinda easy, and once you get going it will feel natural again.

Make a date with Cardio Coach, and don't stand him up.

Let me know how that goes K?

Have a great night!

OH yea...

...your back health is super important.  I think stopping something that is causing you such serious pain is a GOOD / GREAT idea.

hmmmmmmmmm

STOP RUNNING!!

Dont force it..if it hurts, stop and walk or do other low impact stuff mah dear Gym = happy place.

I should listen to my own advice...lol
