Mom's surgery day, team potluck too
Oiy!! OMG!
OK, so I started the day taking mom to the hospital for her hip replacement surgery. I was there 5-ish (yes, a.m.) until 7:30 when they took her in to the O.R. to put her to sleep.
Went to work and they were having team potluck today: soups, chili, stews was the theme, so there were lots of creamy soups and chilis and LOTS of bread/rolls and cookies for dessert. Oh, there was 1 salad.
I had salad and a tiny touch of chicken chili (it looked the least harmful) and NO BREAD OR COOKIES!!
OMG go me!!
So. fast forward to 1:30 p.m. and I got off work and was going to go check in with my mother real quick before going home. I got there at 2 p.m. and she was STILL in the recovery area. HOLY CRAP! So I went to her room and sat there for about 30 minutes and then went down to the surgery waiting room and asked if there was an update on when she'd be in her room and was told "15 minutes" so I decided at this point I needed to eat something and went to the cafe'.... it was before "dinner time" and nothing "healthy" on the dinner menu anyway, so I got some salad from the build-it-yourself salad bar and a bottle of water.
When I got back up to her room, she had been settled in with some crackers, water, ice chips and broth. I gave her a 7-up type soda. She was like why that and I said because I didn't think they'd let her have pepsi tonight.
She was in recovery for 4 hours because her blood pressure went down to the 75 over something range. YIKES!! The nurse on her floor had told me they couldn't bring her up until whatever medicine they were giving into her I.V. to raise the blood pressure was done running into it. Or something like that.
Anyway. Go me for having salad and chicken chili only at the potluck and salad/water only at the hospital.
Hope you all had a great week and will have a wonderful OP weekend!
