Why is it?
Why is it that my friends seem to feel sorry for me? I love the new lifestyle that I'm creating for myself. I love going to restaurants and trying things that I normally wouldn't have tried before. I don't mind going to happy hour and not partaking in the deep fried goodies. Why don't my friends understand that? I feel like they are constantly monitoring what I'm eating and when I chose not to eat something unhealthy, they give me this little pouty look. WHY? Everyone acts as if they are so pround of the weight that I've lost, they ask, How are you doing it? I do you feel? They say, "I really need to lose weight, too." But when they see me doing what it takes to lose, they acts as if I'm doing something bad to myself. I just don't get it!

I sympathize
I know what you mean. Friends can be obstables at times. Stay strong, you look like you're doing great.

Don't let it get to you
Friends mean well. Often they aren't consciously trying to sabbotage you, yet they do it just the same. I have that problem at work. Everyone is always amazed at my progress to date and very complimentary. When they pass around the treats at work I always refuse them. When they order out lunch I always decline. Yet if I step away from my desk, I may come back to find M&Ms or Tim Tams left for me. Grrrrr. Stay strong and focused on your goals. Don't let anyone else determine your behaviour.

keep it up!
Hello from a fellow fat teacher!
Our society has a screwed-up relationship with food as a whole, and with weight loss in specific. To most people, dieting is equivalent to deprivation. A healthy lifestyle change is, while laudable, often seen as punishment by those who have yet to learn that fresh fruit is a lovely thing, and that McD's food is not only bad for you, but just simply scary! Ignore the confusing, mixed messages being sent you by the media and by well-meaning friends, and do the right thing for your new healthy lifestyle!
The journaling you are doing seems like a great idea. Keep up the great work!
