Hi Folks,
Well I've lost a couple of pounds since the last entry but it has slowed significantly.
As mentioned I'm doing Atkins and have had too much difficulty so far. I'd really love to hear from any of you doing Atkins or have done Atkins so that we could share the misery!!!
Seriously I'd like to know where so of you went right or some of you went wrong. It hasn't been too much of a drama apart from my social life which has all but disappeared. I'm offcially boring this year according to my friends although I haven't stopped myself from going out... just not drinking alcohol, which amongst my mates is a big no no.
I got in to this situation of being overweight from drinking beer... I'm now fighting my way out by turning that particular tap off! I know there's low carb beer on the market but at this early stage of my program I'd best stay away!!!
Plus I feel really good about the progress I've made and that is enough to keep me on the straight and narrow! I'm losing the fat but it appears that my weight loss has slowed although I've not increased my carb intake and am still on Induction. I guess it is normal and as Dr A mentions in his book, I'm probably going to experience this from time to time. Exercise is the key to break through that I think.
My birthday tomorrow.... family outing... have to make it a steakhouse I think and Garlic Prawns... although candles in a 8oz steak isn't the same really.
Hope you're all winning and feeling good.

Can't help with Atkins, but can offer support!
Hi! I'm here to say welcome to ExtraPounds and to offer support on your chosen plan. Atkins didn't work for me, so I can't offer much help with that ... I found I couldn't eat that way for life, and anything you can't do for life will never offer permanent results. I would lose huge amounts of weight, then the loss would stall even though I was still eating on plan, and then I would get frustrated and want carbs. I would return to normal eating (not binging, just normal) and the weight came back on fast. So for me Atkins won't work, but low GI, on the other hand, works great! Low GI means I can have carbs, but not the ones that cause the spike on blood sugar levels. It just means choosing healthier carbs.
Anyway, I do wish you the best of luck, and I'll try to keep an eye on your progress! :)
Hi. Yes, booze certainly does help weight gain. My choice is wine. Pure sugar. I hear kimmers or kimners (do web search) is a modified Atkins with great success. I can't do either because kidney disease runs in my family. I eat a LOT of carbs and have done well with my weight loss so far.
Have a terrific birthday! Report back to us that you stayed on program.
I dunno, I'd choose candles on my steak over cake anyday! :) Just wanted to welcome you to EP and wish you the best of luck!! Your avatar cracks me up...My kids are always taking pix of themselves on Photo Booth!
I have not tried Atkins, so I can't be of any help there, either, but just wanted to tell you to not give up! You can do it!
