Before After

Ode to my Metabolism

Ode to my Metabolism

Metabolism mine, how do I hate thee?  Let me count the ways.

Because of you, I gained eight pounds in only five short days!

I ate too much, there is no doubt, I messed up and I know it...

But thanks to you, metabolism, my weigh-in sure did show it!

I should have skipped the Frango mints and left the pumpkin pie...

I ate those mints in but two days, and didn't even try!

What was I thinking when I thought the way to start the day

Was a big slice of pumpkin loaf and an eggnog latte?

Despite the sumptuous delicacies which spread before my eyes,

I should have realized that they would end up on my thighs.

So now it's time to put an end to all of my frustration

And lose the weight that I just gained...(before going on vacation!)  =-)

not bad

WI was 203 today, with a 0.8 lb loss.  Kinda on the weak side, considering that this week I had 6 perfect days.  The seventh was a chili cook-off at school, with 10 homemade chilis that we were to sample and vote for the best.  I had like one spoonful of each, with a tiny bit of cheese and sour cream.  There was also a dessert competition (dear lord!).  I had a very small sample of each dessert.  So, the day was not picture perfect, but the damage I could have done is astronomical.  I felt pretty good about the self-control I exercised.

This upcoming week is going to be really rough, with the Thanksgiving Tea at work Tuesday, and Thanksgiving Thursday.  I know I'll be indulging, but I am going to pledge to be perfect for the month of December up until the 23rd.  Why the 23rd, you ask?  Well, I will be going to Hawai'i!    It will be delightful, but I know that I'll pack on some blubber as I whale watch.

Skinny vibes to one and all!

Good news at last!

I weighed in at 203.8, for a 4.4 lb loss this week!    I am still 5 lbs. up from my lowest weight, but hey...a couple more weeks like this and I'll be sitting pretty by Turkey Day.  I knew it would be a good weigh-in though, as I had 6 perfect days, and the 7th was not that bad either.  So I am happy, and poised for (another) run at onederland.  The November challenge that I am doing with my friend helps a lot.  I put a little gold star on my calendar for each day I eat 1500 cal. or less.  Sounds dinky, but it is satisfying to see all those little stars winking up at me!

Yay! My blog is back!

I don't know about all of you, but I am really relieved to see that our blogs have been restored!

So far, the Nov. Challenge proceeds well.  I had to eat out twice yesterday, but I really tried to make good food choices.  My portion control could have been better, but I'll be fine.

What the fudge?

All my blog posts seem to have been deleted.  That sucks.

NOVEMBER CHALLENGE!

This week showed a 1.8 lb loss, despite my Halloween indulgence.  I am, however, still 10 lbs. up from my lowest point.  So, my friend from work and I have embarked on a November challenge.  We will be PERFECT all month with the exceptions of the Thanksgiving tea at school and Thanksgiving Day.  We are putting little stars in our school planners to mark perfect days, and if we slip up, we have pledged to call the other for a pep talk.  I have been doing really well the past couple days, and I hope to keep it up.

Anybody else wanna join the November Challenge?

Not so great...

I weighed in at two hundred-freakin-ten pounds.  210.  So I gained 0.8.  This is getting almost embarrassing, but blogging is so key to feeling accountable.

However, I weighed in after school, not at the beginning of the day.  I was wearing heavy clothing, since I came straight from work.  I was hydrating properly throughout the day, so I was carrying lots of water weight.  I also had some serious eating episodes this past week(including fondue)!

I am sick of my own excuses at this point.  Time to quit screwing around and display some of the self-discipline that got me to where I am.

A misleadingly bad weigh-in.

I weighed in at 209.2, indicating a 5.6 lb gain over the past 2 weeks.    However, I'd just consumed 2 20-oz beverages and a slice of reduced-fat coffee cake.  Also, it is TOM, so there is the factor of water weight.  I still had a substantial gain, to be sure...but not THAT substantial!

I earned the gain.  Now it is time to undo it.  Maybe this WI was the wake-up call I needed.  Let's hope so.

And the battle continues on...

I spent this past weekend with a friend and attended a very small renaissance faire in Oregon, IL.  I had a great time, but ate way too much.  Chili, pizza, bratwurst, potato salad, homemade scones (yum!), etc. etc...Sweet Tomatoes can be truly evil if one isn't VERY careful.  I don't plan to weigh in until next Monday, so I will have time to try to make things better before I step on a scale.  My clothes all fits, so it can't be TOO bad...

*sigh*.  Someday, I will get to 190.  Someday.

Baby step forward/Trader Joe's substitution list

I lost 0.8 this past week, putting me at 203.6.  I am totally fine with that, as I had two pretty bad days this week.  A small step in the right direction is a success.

On another note:  Anybody else like Trader Joe's?  I substitute JC foods with Trader Joe's ALL the time.  However, I count calories and not exchanges, so that makes it easier.  Here are some of my favorite substitutions:

Breakfasts:

Blueberry waffles (100 cal each)
Steel-cut Oatmeal (150, I think)
Banana Waffles (120 each?)

Lunches/Dinners:

Soba Noodles (200 cal!!!  And it's vegan, too)

All around 300 cal:

Hummus Wrap
Roasted Vegetable Enchiladas (plus salsa and FF sour cream)
Grilled Eggplant Parmesan
Balela (Chickpea/parsley/mint/bean salad)
Ginger Peanut Noodle Salad (1/2 container mixed with salad...yum!)

Now these have a lot of fat, so they are kind of a cheat, but great for a decadent meal without too many cal...all of these are around 300:

Potato Pancakes (eat these with fat free sour cream and unsweetened apple sauce)
Chicken Quesadilla
Mexican Veggie Quesadilla
Clam Chowdah
Tomato Basil Bisque
Butternut Squash Soup (a caloric bargain, 200ish)
Split Pea Soup (vegan)

I am probably not remembering everything, but these tend to be cheaper than JC entrees and at least as good, often better.

Hope that list is helpful to some of you!

Anyhoo, that's all fer now, folks.

Skinny vibes to one and all!
