Yoga Question?

hey everyone!!   the scale said i was down a pound, i'm sure its all due to the heat.

i have been doing a few yoga positions that is for streching the back and i do notice a difference already.  heres my question....

i get in the position and i consentrate on my breathing (that really makes me feel awesome) then all of a sudden i series of cracking runs up or down my spine depending on the position i'm in. does this happen to anyone else? for those of you who see a yoga instructor has that ever been mentioned?

it doesn't hurt. it actual feels good and i sleep so much better. my concern is the way i am shaped and my belly is what pulled the disc and it ruptured a little over a year ago. i wonder is my belly fat is also whats making that happen and down the road i'll pay for it. my husband heard it last night and asked if i was ok and need any help. i didn't its just a noise. i don't push myself only to where i'm comfortable and it seems i get relaxed and pop, snap, crack happens.

well i'm gonna go see a movie...maybe a scary one or click if its still up...then i'll pick up my little guy and were gonna go school shopping since its tax free weekend here.

have a great day!!

feeling: good/and ready to deal w/ the heat...=)

yoga

Sounds to me that your spine is just re-aligning itself.  You are getting yourself into a stable and proper position and then once you relax the muscles around the spine, the vertabrae will slide back into place.  Since they are joints, the popping noise is just air being released and is the same thing as when you crack you knuckles.  Glad to hear that you are liking the new experience!  BTW, I am NOT an expert, but I have participated in yoga and regular chiropractic for years and have gleaned this kind of information from these sources.  Happy yoga!

pop away!

The first month I did yoga I walked around sounding like I had a bag of microwave popcorn going off inside me. I was almost exactly your size now at that time. I asked my main instructor if that was normal, and she just kind of looked at me funny like she's never heard anyone say that. After a few weeks, it stopped. Now I look back and realize my spine was just de-compacting and realigning inself in the proper position. In other words, the popping was a GOOD thing! Enjoy!

Discs are a pain!

Hi there!  I just wanted to let you know that the same thing happens to me.  Lots of cracks and pops!  I wouldn't worry, it's probably the same as when you get adjusted by a chiropractor, you're just doing it yourself.  (and saving $75 a pop!  LOL)  I have had 4, yes 4, surgeries for herniated and ruptured discs, and my spinal specialist told me yoga was great.  My issue is my muscles in my back tighten SO easy and cause spasms.  He said yoga was great for not only strenghtening them, but also loosening and stretching them too.  Just be careful about some poses- if you can tell it might be too much, don't push it.  Feel free to ask your instructor for modification poses, or using blocks or belts to help you.  Don't try to keep up with others, yoga is about your body.  If you are doing a workout at home, just listen to your body.  :)

Snap! Crackle! Pop!

I'm a popper, too.  It always feels good to me.  I'm very protective of my body and do yoga with care, but I LOVE IT.  I feel I've improved in strength, balance, and flexibility since I started practicing regularly.  And that's just the physical stuff.  I'm also calmer.

I will always do yoga.  So glad you're enjoying it.
