Not posting on EP anymore

I don't get any comments and so many people have left.  It's just not worth the time anymore if it's not giving me any inspiration.

I have moved to Sparkpeople and the site is so much better than EP.  Real people are there and very motivating.  However, I will miss all the people I have met here and who helped me get started!  Please visit me on Sparkpeople.  I will be still updating my weight chart here because I do like that better.  I wish everyone luck and we can do it!

Paddleboarding: A new obsession!

I absolutely love it.  Today, I went out to the lake with a friend and we went paddleboarding.  That's where you stand on a long surfboard like thing and use a paddle to get around.  I adore it.  It's peaceful. It's challenging.  It's a huge workout.  I did it for 60 minutes and felt so good.  Last time I went, I felt really unstable, but this time it was completely different.  I improved a lot and can't wait to go again.  I will find a way to go once a week for the rest of the summer.

So here's the breakdown from today:

60 minutes paddleboarding
30 minutes on the stationary bike
1585 calories consumed
Did not get all my fruits and veggies sadly
DID get all of my water

For some reason, I feel much more relaxed today about eating and felt like I ate what I wanted and am full and satisfied tonight.  Some days, 1600 calories seem like hardly anything and I just want to eat and eat.  Maybe it's because I ate far too many at Ribfest yesterday and they are still lingering in my system?

Anyway, ribfest was fun and I enjoyed spending time with friends.  I ate way too much, unfortunately, but didn't completely blow the whole day.  I had a oatmeal for breakfast, half a six inch subway turkey sub for lunch, and then ribs, drinks, and even pizza. Gasp! I tried to get some exercise by making my boyfriend walk the 2.5 miles there with me, but we only made it a mile and he got too hot and uncomfortable.  Oh well, I don't regret the day and I had a great time with friends.

I am weighing in tomorrow and then continuing my challenges at a weekly basis.  I will be satisfied each week if the scale moves in the right direction and I am going to try to stop being so impatient.  I will reach my goal weight all in good time.  Also, I can't wait to see how I look next summer! Rawr! :)

10 miles?!

As it seems, yesterday, I walked over 10 miles.  Lol.  It was unplanned, but just happened.  In the morning, I met my friend to walk to the beach.  It's 2 miles away.  We were supposed to paddleboard there, but the waves were too big and the place was closed.  So we just lounged on the beach for a bit and then walked back.  Then, I met my friend for dinner and we walked to a friend's band at a bar.  It turned in to an epic walk though, because we had some time to kill and ended up walking about 2 hours before and then I had to walk home after.  My feet were sore!  I also did 30 min. on my stationary bike.  Needless to say, I was up on my calories yesterday, but my calorie differential was great!

Today, I think I am going to take it a bit easier and just do the bike and my weights...but my friend did mention a walk later.  Ahhhhh.  I love summer!

Have a happy, healthy day!

One day at a time

Today went great with my exercise and just ok with my eating.  Exercise has never been the problem for me.  In high school I did swimming, cross country, volleyball, ice hockey, and track.  Because I was burning so many calories doing all of that, I think I made some really bad eating habits or a lack of self control.  I would just eat anything, whenever I wanted, and huge portions.  Then, in college, even though I was still playing hockey, the pounds started to pack on. I think it's because I never really thought about what I was eating. Well anyway, some of these habits still are deep seeded in me and what I struggle with.  (Especially candy...) That's why I had to give up coca cola cold turkey.

Anyway, here's how today went:

3 mile run
30 min on the stationary bike
Walked to play tennis, but the courts were taken and people were waiting... Lots of walking though.
1750 calories
Ate all my fruits and veggies
Still working on getting in my water
220 calories Peeps eaten (From Easter! Gahhhhh!!!!!  Those calories are included in my above count)

Its a bummer for me to have given in the Peeps because they are so nutritionally empty, but ah well.  Tomorrow's another day!

I hope everyone had a fantastic and healthy day.  I peeked at the scale this morning and things are moving in the right direction. Hurrah! Official weigh in Sunday.

Fighting back

After giving in to popcorn AND candy at the movies yesterday, and going over my calories, I put the pedal to the metal today.

50 minutes on the stationary bike.
3 mile fast walk.
1489 calories.
All my water.
All my fruits and veggies. (Thank you Subway for a low cal lunch!)
A little sad that some of my calories went to vodka. (But also a little happy!)

Hurrah! And I stepped on the scale and it's down from this morning. I love being lighter at the end of the day because I normally weigh the least in the morning, so it's an indicator that I did something right today.

Anyway, had a great day and can't wait to push it tomorrow. The weather is supposed to be cooler, so I think I can go running! Yayyyyyyy! Kick some ass this week! We can do it!

Monday: A great day for new goals!

I am going to kick butt this week! Here's the plan:

Stay within my calorie range: 1300 to 1600.
Get my 8 cups of water per day.
Try to get in 5 servings of fruits and veggies.
Workout 45 minutes EVERYDAY! Even if it's going for a 45 minute walk.

In other news, I am going to drive back to Michigan sometime this week because my sister is going to have a baby! 2nd nephew, here we come! I have been working non-stop on crocheting a baby blanket and hat for the lil guy and I can't wait to meet him. So I have my bag packed and waiting by the door for when my sister calls and tells me to head home. Can't wait!

Tough eating day

I had a tough eating day today. Gah. I was pretty hungry this afternoon and could not stop snacking. Fortunately, when I added up all my calories, I am at about 1700, so it's not the worst I have done. I kind of feel since I am out of my school routine, and I gave myself so much leeway on my vacation, I am retraining myself now. I just have to do better.

Anyway, yesterday was a great day and then a bad night. I walked 2.5 miles to my volleyball tournament. Played 4 games of beach volleyball--our team lost all four! Oops. :) Then, my friend and I rented paddle boards for an hour and I had the best time. Paddleboarding is such a workout! It's like kayaking, but you stand on a big surf board and paddle. The waves were big and it took a lot of balance, but I managed to do it for quite a while. I am sore and sunburned today. Then, last night my boyfriend and I were sick to our stomachs all night, I think from drinking in the sun and being in the sun all day. But, feeling better today.

As for the overeating or more like, feeling out of control about what I am eating, I need to do a bit more reflection on it, drink my water and tea, and just relax because I have the rest of my life to get really good at this!

The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Hey all! I am happy to be back on my diet and back from my vacation.

The good:
My vacation was awesome! 14 days of fun with friends in 4 different states. We hung out in San Francisco and enjoyed the city and all of its hills. We hiked in Big Sur and explored the Monterey Aquarium. We drove up the Oregon coast and searched in tide pools and saw starfish and sea anemones. Then to Portland to check it out. Up to Seattle to shop at the Pike St. Market, walk the town, Capitol Hill, and the Space Needle. Then, off to Anchorage, Alaska to tour through the Kenai Peninsula and visit my little brother. We camped on a sand spit in Homer and saw tons of bald eagles and cute otters. We took a 9-hour wildlife cruise and saw calving glaciers, humback whales, sea birds like puffins, porpoises, and fin whales. We hiked all over Alaska and ran into a moose, scared up some bears, and tried to climb to an ice field. It was the best trip I have ever taken! I took 1,000 pictures and I will share some soon.

The bad and the ugly:
Even though I had pledged to continue healthy eating during my trip, I fell off the wagon. We ate at so many restaurants with so many delicious foods. It was ridiculous. I will spare people the details, but man, it was like I had never been on a diet before. That made me really sad because I have been so enthusiastic and motivated. It was like my mind was preoccupied with vacationing and enjoying it to the fullest, that I just let it go by the wayside. I even stopped tracking calories the second week of the vacation. I was SO SCARED to step on scale when I got home today. Gahhhhh. But it wasn't terrible, I am at 176.4, so a 2 lb. gain over the 2 week vacation. I will officially weigh in tomorrow morning and record it in the weight section.

Back to the good:
There are a couple of things that I did keep to over the vacation. Lots of exercise was a plus. I also didn't drink ANY soda! I kept my lattes small and skim. And, I chose healthy snacks.

To get back on track in a big way, I walked to the grocery store and loaded my basket with fruits and vegetables. So, tonight I ate a really healthy dinner. I had a spinach and grape tomato salad with a grilled chicken breast on it and a tbs. of parmesan cheese. For dessert, I ate a fruit salad of honeydew melon, raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries.

I am back! :)

Epic Vacation!

Well, I leave for my epic vacation at 4 a.m. tomorrow morning. My boyfriend is driving me to the airport, because we're leaving so early, or I would take the trains there. Here's what we are doing on the vacation.

Day 1-2: San Francisco (And driving Big Sur)
Day 3-4: Wedding in San Jose
Day 5: Driving to the Redwood Forest
Day 6: Hiking and driving to Portland
Day 7: Hanging around Portland then driving to Seattle
Day 8: Handing around Seattle
Day 9: Flying to Alaska
Day 10-14 Hiking, hiking, hiking, and a wildlife cruise. Also visiting my lil brother.

I have been waiting for this vacation for months and am soooo excited. But I am a little worried because it might throw me off my healthy lifestyle plan. I have been giving in to some temptations as of late, and it's got me a little worried. Also, the scale hasn't been moving. Gah. But my main goal of the trip is to not gain. I am not worried about losing on my vacation. I hope I can do it!

I probably won't be able to post much while I'm away, but I will try if I have a minute. And I will continue logging my food and fitness on the Sparkpeople App.

Have a happy and healthy 2 weeks! Lots of picture to come!

Also, here is me and my dad kayaking from this past weekend

Weekend slip up

I am not sure what it is, but when the weekend rolls around, all I do is find new and interesting ways to slip up from my diet.  Gah! It's like I give in to temptation, or eat something that is hard to track because it's from a local restaurant.  I don't know, but this is the new thing that I need to conquer because it's bringing me down. But, all in all it was a great weekend.

Anyway, it was fun being home and I got to spend some quality time with my parents.  Yesterday, my dad got me up at the crack of dawn and we went kayaking up north.  We kayaked about 7 miles through the waves.  It took us about 4 hours.  The tracker on here said that's about 2000 calories burned, and believe me, I was that hungry.  My dad wanted ice cream after, so I gave in to my first ice cream cone in months.  Ooops.  Then at home we had a healthy barbeque and I was on my way back to Chicago.  A great weekend all in all, but back on track today.

Have a healthy week! (2 days til I leave on my epic vacation.  Lot's of getting ready to do.)
