Before After

Jumping back in ...

I'm feeling great and am ready to start working on losing weight I had gained BEFORE this baby.  How nutty to lose weight during a pregnancy but still need to lose more.  Ugh!

I'm at 157.  I'm not sure what my goal should be.  I'd sure like to see the 130s again.  Much less than that and I start to look gaunt in the cheeks.

So here I am, 1 month postpartum and ready to get rolling!

Goal Reached and Exceeded!

My goal was to maintain my weight throughout my pregnancy, but I didn't think I'd manage it.  I simply wanted to avoid gaining TOO much.

I started at nearly 173 and finished below 165, so I not only maintained but even managed to lose a bit.

I do NOT advocate dieting during pregnancy.  I did not diet.  I ate sensibly and continued a moderate exercise plan.  Lots of walking!

I will probably not weigh in until early July, because these next weeks are set aside for adjusting to a new baby in the house and recovering from pregnancy/childbirth.

See you all in July!

Playing number games ...

Again, figuring the allowable one-pound-per-week gain and considering I am 165 pounds at 37 weeks, my postpartum weight goal should be 128.

I believe that's wishful thinking.

If you account for ...

... an average gain for pregnancy of 1lb per week, then I (at 28.7 weeks) should look forward to a post-pregnancy weight of 137lbs.

Day 3

I should be at 170.2 today, but I am not.

I'm at 171.8 so have only "lost" .4 pounds.

I haven't had much sleep due to illness in the family, so I've continued drinking Mt. Dew to keep myself moving.

Day 1 of 7 ...

172.2 is my starting weight.

Now for breakfast.  I think a small portion of beef will help me get going.  Is orange juice bad?

A new day ...

Let's pretend that it's still Sunday, even though the clock has slipped past midnight into the wee hours of Monday morning.

Tomorrow (Monday) begins my personal goal of losing 7 pounds in 7 days.  I'll weigh-in in the morning and I plan to weigh-in every morning for the next week.

I have a plan to help me along ...

~ Eliminate simple sugars (this includes my beloved Mt. Dew)
~ Protein right away each morning to prevent snackies
~ Low fat, high fiber
~ Daily vitamins so my body doesn't hoard calories
~ Water, water, water, water, water

Any other suggestions?

A pound lost?

I'm at 171 this morning, which isn't really a loss since I have bounced up and down with the same four pounds for months.

I have joined a group of ladies in losing weight together.  It's sort of a "Biggest Loser" group.  My starting weight last week was 172 and today I can report 171.  At least it's a loss.

I am going to try to eat differently.  I'm thinking of a low-fat, only-good-carbs diet.  Lots of beans for the healthy fiber and protein along with brown rice in moderation and plenty of veggies.  No more store-bought pseudo-wheat bread, either.  Whole wheat tortillas if I must have a sandwich type of meal.

What do you think of that approach?

Another change I'm considering is getting a fitness hoop (similar to a weighted hula hoop) for exercise.  I walk constantly in Spring, Summer and Fall yet that doesn't help me lose weight.  A friend used a fitness hoop as her main exercise routine, along with dietary changes, and had great success.  We are about the same height and build.  She started at the same weight I am now and has nearly reached the goal weight that we both share.

And still ...

Still bouncing between 168 and 172 pounds.

For the first time in nine years I bought pants today.  I always wear skirts and dresses, but have a need for pants in a few days for safety and modesty.

I bought a size 19.

Something has to give!

Well, phooey!

Back up to 170 lbs.  This is ridiculous!

I might try tracking my calories and reducing my intake.  That is working for The Penguin so it may work for me.

Increasing my water intake is next.  I am doing okay with that, but it must not be enough.  Reducing the Mt. Dew and sweet tea will also help.

I have exercised intermittently.  I need to commit to doing that once daily.

We have a piece of exercise equipment that claims to tell you how many calories you have burned.  I could use that in short bursts in between laundry trips to the basement. LOL
