Before After

starting to slip......

after such a great start to my 3rd month on WeightWatchers, and with only 1lb to lose to reach my first stone lost, something went wrong :(

week 10 - started badly and continued that way:
Tuesday - 32.5 points including crisps, beer, chocolate and whisky :(
Wednesday - 28 points, better but another beer included :(
Thursday - 36 points, including danish, clotted cream, beer and 3 packs of crisps :(
Friday - 29 points, seems ok but includes 3 beers and 2 curly wurlys :(
Saturday - 34 points, including chicken, prawns & 2 rump steaks!
Sunday - 35 points, including 2 beers, syrup sponge & custard and a jam donut :(
Monday - 23.5 points - trying to rescue before weigh in, but still includes 2 beers and a curly wurly!

weigh in result = no loss - a surprise to be honest, as I was expecting a gain!

3rd month, starting well....

so, having lost 9lb in 2 months, I commenced month 3 with vigour and managed to achieve a fantastic 4lb weight loss in week 9!

how did this happen?

well, I had 4 days going slightly over my points (2-4 points over), but all of these were offset by earning more than this amount of activity points to cover the extra. I had 1 day spot on my 29 points with another 1.5 activity points earned that day but uneaten, I had 1 day slightly under (1.5 points) my allowance, again with 1.5 activity points earned that day too, and I had 2 days substantially under my allowance (11.5 under and 5.5 under) with a total of 5 activity points earned across both days.

so, I used 194 points through the week - 9 less than my allowance, plus I did 24.5 points worth of exercise in addition.

this is clearly a winning formula.

2nd month......

so, weighed in on Tuesday 4th Sept, 7 weeks in and had lost another 1.5lb taking the total to 7lb, earning me my first 'silver 7' - a little WeightWatchers recognition event every half stone lost : )

week 8 weigh in saw another 2lb gone, but week 9 was static for me, remaining at 15st 12.5lb :(

after 2 months on WeightWatchers I was now exactly 9lbs lighter than when I started.

1 month in.....

so, all was going well after the first month, and having moved down to 15st something from 16st something, I was working within a 29 points per day allowance.....

........until 18th August - HOLIDAY!!

we took the kids to their favourite summer holiday location (again!!) - Freshwater Beach near Bridport Dorset, and so began a regime of fried breakfasts and alcohol soaked evenings in the entertainment centre!

Friday = 47.5 points :(
Saturday = 43 points :(
Sunday = 45 points :(

after which I gave up counting until  I got home the following week!

Tuesday 28th August, 6 weeks in, it was the time of reckoning at the WeightWatchers scales.......

....... a loss!!!

ok, it was only 0.5lb, but I was honestly expecting a gain after my excesses - I can only put it down to exercise, I took the kids and dogs on 3 mile walks most days over some VERY steep cliffs!

here's a log of one of the walks we did (pop-up link)

you can see more of my walking & cycling routes on my sanoodi profile page here http://sanoodi.com/profile/ctrlaltdelboy/ routes are tracked & logged via my Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS gadget.

the story so far.....

Hi I'm Darren and this is my weight loss blog.

It all started when my wife, Claire, pestered me to help her to lose weight by accompanying her to WeightWatchers and joining her in support on the WeightWatchers program, which I agreed to do both for her and also because I had known for some time that I was overweight and unfit myself.

So, along we went on Tuesday 17th July 2007 and joined up and got weighed.

As many may know, WeighWatchers works on the basis of tracking food consumption by points, with everything you eat & drink having a points value and there being a ceiling to the number of points you may consume each day.

Each person's points 'allowance' is individual and based on a number of factors including gender, lifestyle, weight, height and age - using these factors, my allowance was calculated to be 30 points per day.

My starting weight was 16st 7.5lb, or 231.5lb if you're American, or 105kg if you're European.

And so I started paying close attention to the calories and saturated fats (for these are the measure of the points values) in everything I ate or thought about eating, and in some cases chose not to eat due to the heavy point values contained, and the effect that consuming such items would have on the remaining points available to see me through to the end of the day!

By the following week I had lost 1.5lb, and felt 'ok' about my start, albeit a little slower than I was expecting.

I lost another 2lb during the next week through following the regime pretty well, another 1lb the next week and another 0.5lb the week after so by 14th August, 4 weeks into the new regime my total loss was 5lb - slow, but still feeling good about moving in the right direction.
