Wedding weightloss
I'm engaged now!
Mike proposed about a week ago. We're pretty excited of course. Our day will be next February. Planning is already well underway.
Now, I've never been the type of girl to be all "i need to be skinny for my wedding day." But it is sort of a motivation. More of a motivation is just getting into size 8 jeans again and feeling sexy. Wearing a sexy black dress for new years. People seeing me and saying "wow, she looks great! what's her secret."
That being said- i gained about 6 lbs in Las Vegas in April. We walked a lot but also ate a lot. So losing the Vegas weight right now.
Went jogging three times last week. Just once this week so far (we had a horrific thunder storm last night and it was just, really really wet and rainy out this morning, so we opted out of the run).
I ordered Women's Health Wedding Workout (I love the magazine and the workout sounds right up my alley).

Pumping iron
So I did my upper body workout on Monday night. My boobs and upper arms are still feeling it. In a good way though.
Tonight is lower body- so will do squats, dead lifts, calf raises and seated leg curls. Will also finish off with 30 crunches on the exercise ball and 2 sets of 12 side bends (holding dumbbells) for my abs and obliques.
I will also stretch afterwards- being sure to stretch out my hips and legs, as well as do some donkey kicks and stretch my butt and leg muscles with some yoga moves.
It's supposed to get up to 9 degrees this week, so I'll be searching for my sports bra so that i can go jogging on Friday night.

160
Weighed in today at 160.6.
So I had this epiphany. That I should lift weights. Not 8 lb dumbbells, but actual weight. Minimum 8 lbs for tricep kickbacks and pushing myself to lift more for larger muscle groups.
I was on the weight loss forum and was reading some things about how women don't see progress because they need to build more muscle. It's true! When I was 120 I was just a smaller fat person. I never felt great in a bikini. I started lifting weights and while I have gained weight (obviously) since then and haven't worked out in the weight room in about 6 years, I still have a better core then when I hadn't worked out.
So strength training, here I come!
Mike also wants to work on building his muscles and luckily, I want to get a weight bench too (with a barbell and all that stuff) and so we're getting one to put at his place (where I stay most nights anyway, it's pretty much "our cabin" now).
I want to get a book with some basic moves and techniques, so hope to pick one up tomorrow when we get the weight bench.
I also will start training to run 5 Km as soon as I can run outside (about a week until the sidewalks/running trails are cleared). I can't wait to run outside- going to the treadmills at the gym wasn't exactly motivating. To me, nothing is nicer than running at 6 in the morning with the cool breeze and nothing but me, my music and the road.

162
Ok, so the scale said 162 this morning. Eek! *bites nails*
I have been journalling and saying that I'm on a diet for 2 months now and have gained about 5 lbs. Obviously I'm not doing something right.
I'm almost 100% sure that it's thinking about weight that is making me gain it.
On a positive note, spring is here! The snow is melting and the pavement is creeping through. Last night Mike and I went for a nice long walk and mmm, was just so nice out.
So far, my food for the day:
breakfast- a whole wheat bagel, peanut butter and jam, glass of water.
lunch- 1 cup vegetable soup with 1 grilled cheese sandwich (2 slices cheese on 2 peices of rye bread).
A 4 oz container of yogurt
Snack: cake (i know, bad!). 1 small pc of white cake, leftover from a coworker's birthday cake.
Dinner tonight is supposed to be baked tortilla chips with a low fat salsa type dip (veggie ground round, salsa, fat free sour cream, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes). For a snack I may have some dry air popped popcorn later in the evening.

Today's weigh in
So weighed in at 162 today.
I'm not happy that I've somehow gained 3 lbs last week.
I don't have much else to say, as I'm at work and am busy. But now, more than ever, I am more determined to get more active.

Sometimes seems endless
When I joined up on the weight loss forum, I put my weight in that day as my starting weight- 158. However, on here I realized I started at probably around 160. According to my weight loss forum I haven't lost any weight- while according to here I've lost about 2 lbs.
The lesson in this: be completely honest and don't sell yourself short.
So this month, I did lose 2 lbs. I haven't fully recognized that or honoured it. But yay me!
My goal this month, this glorious month of March, is to lose 5 lbs.
Sometimes the journey seems endless but I read something today on the weight loss forum that jogged my inspiration/motivation: It's not the destination, it's the journey.
It's a simple cliche, one I've heard over and over again, but finally I'm thinking of it in a new way. It's not being 140 lbs that is what's important... it's maintaining a healthy lifestyle and treating my body like a temple. It's about taking care of my heart and having more energy. It's about the little steps that eventually add up to a thousand miles.

Journalling
One of my SparkPeople goals is to write in a journal every day about my weight loss journey. Hence, whether I write in the Weight Loss Forum I've joined or whether I write more personal observations in here, I do make sure I say something every day.
Today I was happy to see my scale reading 157.4 again.
I joined a 2lbs a month challenge on the weight loss forum. I hadn't dropped anything for the first few weeks. However, yesterday (weigh-in day) I saw I've now moved from 158/159 down to 157.4.
And it stuck for another day too! I was soooo worried I would gain it back yesterday. As I was bad and had a chocolate bar and actually ate about 1900 calories yesterday. However, I went for an hour long walk with a friend also, burning about 250 calories.
I digress, I'm realizing the importance of NOT starving myself and getting EXERCISE. I honestly don't feel that bad about having 1900 calories yesterday, as the food I ate (other than the chocolate bar) wasn't terrible at all. I think 1900 is actually kind of healthy. Considering my BMR is 2100, and considering I walked for an hour and ate a lot of vegetables and fruits yesterday... well, 1900 isn't horrible at all.
I don't know, maybe I'm in denial. But I think if I continue aiming for 1300-1700 calories a day and don't stress out when I go a bit over... well, if I keep doing this and keep getting more and more active then I may be on the right track.

Yesterday
Today's weigh in: 158.4 lbs.
Yesterday I ate really well. It kind of just happened though. I had no cravings for a snack or anything, i just wasn't as crazy hungry as I can sometimes get during my mornings at work.
Breakfast: Oatmeal w/1 tbsp brown sugar and 1/2 cup milk, glass of OJ
Lunch- 6 inch turkey sub, 2 cookies
Dinner- Pita bread stuffed with 30 grams provolone cheese, lettuce and balsamic vinegrette.
Snacks- 1 after-8 chocolate, cup of herbal tea. 1 slice Soy Cheese. 1 bag smart pop popcorn with big glass of water.
The popcorn was a late night thing. I was really hungry (dinner wasn't quite satisfying), so I thought instead of grabbing something really bad, I'd go for the popcorn. WHich was kindly low in calories yet very satisfying.

Night weight vs. Morning weight
I found out last night that I weighed in at 162, only 2 lbs more than the morning. Then, right before bed, I was 159- a pound less!
This morning, 161.
What the heck!
When I was 150, I would weigh myself at night and be around 154- then the next morning back to 150.
So now I'm curious. Is this new thing where I actually weigh only a pound more at night or even less than my morning weigh in- does this mean i'm carrying less water weight or something? Is this a sign of progress or is this just a moot point?

Love Day
So it's Valentine's Day.
I think back to a year ago- i was single and lonely. I actually was dating a guy briefly and we did go out for Valetine's dinner. We broke up the following weekend after 6 weeks of a very short lived romance (and I use that term loosely, as my heart wasn't falling for him and romance was definitely not there).
Now, present day, I have a wonderful man in my life. This morning I got out of bed before him and surprised him with a giftbox of homemade cookies (peanut butter, his favourite), some silly boxers and a silly box of chocolates, as well as a card that I felt best expressed my feelings for him (was going to go with a homemade card, but finding craft supplies in this town is hard!).
I digress, it's very nice having a partner around this time of year. But of course I don't need this day to appreciate him and love him, it's just a great excuse to surprise him with a little something.
Tonight we're having dinner at his place (no idea what he's cooking up, but it's a surprise so I'm sure I'll love it). Today, no calorie counting. Er, well, i'll count, but today is a cheat day anyway. I will have cake or dessert if it's on the menu and I will enjoy my dinner.
However, I'm not entirely slipping today. I'm being aware of what I'm eating still and have not binged on anything. I even braved the -31 (celsius) temperature out there and went for a 15 minute walk (i actually got it done in 8 minutes, which I think was due to me walking faster to stay warm).
Tonight I have to do my cleaning job at work here at 5, which involves some floor washing and sweeping and stair climbing.
On a side note: I did a belly dancing video last night and it was great! It really worked the arms (holding them up for the entire workout! boy, did i feel that in my triceps) and the abs.
Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Be sure to take time to tell those in your life that you love them :)
