Before After

Weigh in and exercise

I somehow messed up my weigh in's here. Today's weigh in put me at 216.3. I lost 2.6 pounds this week! I think I'm really getting the hang of my eating and what is appropriate. I'm finding myself in a different mind frame with food recently and it's a very good thing.

Exercise has been so much better this week. I've gotten my butt back to the gym, we've done a walk and a hike this week also, so much improvement there and I'm feeling a lot better because of it also.

I couldn't figure out why I was so sluggish and had no energy so I changed up my routine with studying and am doing so much better in both categories, studying and exercising.

I only need to lose 17.3 pounds over the next twelve weeks and I'll hit my goal. that's a little less than a pound and a half a week. It's doable and I'm really trying to get there but if I don't I won't beat myself up about it.

I'm hoping to get out of the 200's by thanksgiving and then just maintain through the holidays. That will put me at 36 pounds I lost this year. I'll be over the moon with that. Next year I'll be working on my next goal which is 179. Next year I hope to be down those 20 pounds by Summer solstice. When I get there I'll re-evaluate where I want to go next.

I'm excited about my recent losses. It's so great to see that what I'm doing with my calories is showing on the scale. I'm starting to notice my jeans fitting a little looser which is also very nice.

Onward and downward!

Milk update

The goal was to cut my milk consumption down to 1 glass a day. I think I can officially say I've achieved that beautifully. I'm drinking a glass of milk with breakfast and have stopped drinking it any other time during the day or evening.

I've been very consistence with this and it's surprised me with how easy it was to knock out those extra calories.

At one point I wanted to try to cut milk out all together and purchased some almond milk. I couldn't do it. I tried both the sweetened and unsweetened and it was just gross.

There's really no substitution for cows milk in my book. If I give up milk it won't be for a different kind of milk; it will be for water, or juice or something. For now though, I'm happy with my one glass in the morning.

Out of the 220's

We're back from our vacation out west and had a freaking blast. I was pretty surprised that I came home from vacation to a loss of 0.4. It's not huge but I was expecting a gain so any loss was totally shocking.

We did stay active and did a lot of sharing plates eating out while on vacation. I think that really helped a lot.

I'm finding it hard to get back into my groove and I expected this to happen. It normally does whenever I go on vacation or something. I'm eating properly, and as I said in a previous post I'm logging calories now on MyPlate, but the exercise bug has left the building.

I'm hoping to get moving again and that I just needed a week to get back in the swing of things and get my body adjusted to the time change.

This week's weigh in was awesome, even with the little exercise I did. I lost 4.2 pounds which is the biggest loss yet. I almost didn't believe it but I wasn't going to question it.

Now the tricky part will be keeping it off while my monthly pays me a visit this week sometime. I'm still determined to lose 25 pounds over the next 3 months and this was a big dent in that.

For now I'm out of the 220's! YAY! And I plan to continue the downward slope to get out of the 200!

Still here...

I'm still here!
Still moving along.
Still riding my bike, walking, hiking, etc.
Still trying to lose.
Still trying to get healthy

Exams this week + leaving for vacation this weekend = Crazy busy week.

Riding my bike a lot
Hit a big goal...23 mile ride last weekend!
Total of 50 miles last week!

I've started counting calories.
I wasn't seeing the progress I wanted to see.
MyPlate on Livingstrong.com is awesome.

New goal... 25 pounds by Thanksgiving.
Out of the 200's
Starting now but vacation will interfere.
Breaks down to 1.8 pounds a week.

I can do it!

Peace.

Name change - Sustainably Healthy

I've decided to change the name of my blog here. Naturally Thin is something I've never been nor will I ever be. I was trying to convey that I was looking for the thin in a natural way but I think it just got confusing.

So anyway, I've changed it. It's now Sustainably Healthy which I think has a more positive tone and it more truly conveys what I'm trying to do in my life. Which is to live sustainably in my choices both as a consumer of goods and service and also as a consumer of food. I think it fits much better.

One Thing - Milk

I've decided to start trying to chip away one at a time, the bad eating habits I have. It might be weekly or monthly, just depends on how hard it is to bust it. This week is milk.

We buy local, full fat milk. For me, it taste better and retains more of the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients than regular store bought milk. Plus we're supporting a local farmer who I know treats his cows in a humane and sustainable way.

The problem is that I love it...a little too much. I average anywhere from 2-4 cups of milk a day or 1-3 glasses. This is putting a LOT of extra calories in my diet that I just don't need. So we're going to bust it.

Goal: One serving/glass of milk a day (probably with breakfast).
By just cutting my milk intake in half, I will reduce my calorie intake by over 1000+ calories a week.

It's a doable goal and should be an easy bust. I'll post an update in a week or so.

Weekly Menu

I thought I'd share our menu for the week. We normally plan out our menu on Sat or Sun before we go grocery shopping. It's so much easier knowing what you're eating that night and there is less room for eating out.

Monday - Pork Stir fry with bok choy
Tuesday - Tabbouleh with cumin chicken
Wednesday - Grill chicken, butter beans, roasted potatoes
Thursday - Gnocchi with roasted squash and zucchini
Friday - Camping - Hamburgers with Mac salad
Saturday - Camping - Chicken casserole with veggies

We try to hit the farmers market every Saturday that we're in town to stock up on lots of veggies. Normally we eat out for dinner once a week, mainly on Fri or Sat. This week we're camping so we'll be eating and cooking fireside!

Busy, busy busy - weigh in

Man, We are just staying busy and I guess that's a good thing. We rode to the store yesterday and picked up our groceries making our total miles this week only 13. It's not in the 20's like the last month or so but it's been a hectic week.

Weigh in was today and I'm down 1.4lbs which is great. I love seeing my hard work pay off. I've really tried watching what I was eating this week and I see that it's working well.

Tonight's Dinner:
  • Wild-caught Salmon - brown sugar cured
  • Squash & Zucchini ribbon salad
  • Wild rice
YUM!

Checking in...

Good morning. Looks like I have a few minutes this morning before school so I thought I'd pop in and up date. Mon, we did the ride albeit a small one and Tues I took my nephew out on a bike ride. All total: 7 miles this week.

We had planned another hiking trip this weekend but I'm thinking we probably will do a cycling trip instead. I'm hoping to cycle to my school and back to see how difficult it is and how I feel on the big roads.

Hope everyone who stops by has a great week. I'll check back in again when I get a little more time.

Ow

So the hike turned into a 7 mile hike...ow. Most of it was awesome but toward the end there was a torrential down pour. We were soaked to the bone and walking the last 2 miles in ankle-deep muddy water...good times, lol, not.

I'm hurting today. Last night and this morning I felt like I got hit by a car. Now I'm just sleepy and sore. Oh the things we think our bodies can do only to learn the hard way they aren't quiet there yet.

Still have a bike ride planned for this evening but kind of hoping that rain moves in and we don't go. I know, bad, but I need a rest day!
