Before After

Great Philly trip

Well it seemed so quick, I was in Philly and then back.  We had a great time.  Fri night we went to Vetri - it was very yummy.  10 courses or so I took pics I will post later.  I have been detoxing since yesterday.  I had wine fri, sat, and sun - that is really a lot.  We went to a party on Sat night and Sun night my other cousin and her 2 daughters came over and we cooked.  It was really nice, my cousin's husband is a wonderful cook, we had a great salad, grilled pizza, fig with proscutto and motzerella.  Sorry about the spelling, I am in a hurry and can't look up the correct spelling.  We also had shrimp oreganto and a pasta that was a fat buster, olive oil, brie, tomatoes, basil, onion, and garlic,  It was delicious but I have been a really good girl Mon and Tues.  I did not weigh this morning since and air travel always equals weight gain.  I will see where I am tomorrow.  I also am going into JC on Thursday.  I have been trying to make room in my freezer, had a lean pocket for lunch.

On a really sad note one of my cousins who was only 48 died in his sleep on Sat night so my cousin from Philly is actually flying in on Thurs we are going to the wake and funeral Thurs and Fri.  I went to the gym this morning because it was drizzling, got in 30 minutes of treadmill and 40 minutes of ab work.  I also went for a bike ride in the afternoon 17 miles 1 hour 25 minutes.  Planning on going first thing in the morning too, I have to drive to central ILL to visit a friend after I drop the DH off at work.  So gotta run, I am baking for my aunt for the wake and funeral.

Scale is moving in the right direction

Well there must be some karma in the air, my scale was down 1.9 pounds this morning.  Yeah - I ended up doing really well at dinner last night, no wine, salad to start, the rest of the group had the meat terrine platter - not something I like anyway besides it is loaded with fat so easy to avoid.  They did not serve bread - a plus and then I had carrot soup and 1/2 order of the farro, squash, and chicken.  It was really simple but that was good because no extra oil or sauce.  I even left half of the farro.  I did have half a desert but all is well.

I was up for another early morning bike ride we went 18.2 miles in 1 hour 23 minutes.  I have been running around the rest of the day but I did manage to find a new convertible bra so I can wear some halter and racerback kind of tops I have without a sweater or jacket over.  I am taking one with my to Philly.  Plus I had a 25% off coupon and I found another bra on sale.  I am trying to get packed and only take a few pieces.  With the new charge for luggage I am trying to do a carryon.  Went out for lunch but was good, soup and then cod with veg, 1 pc of bread and 1/2 a desert.  Home for dinner, need to eat up a bunch of veg so probably a salad.  Hope everyone has a great weekend, our flight is at 10:20 so we will be up early to get the dog to the dog hotel and then get to the airport.  We come back Monday, I may take the laptop with me we will see.

I eat a lot of veggies

Well yesterday was a real veggie overload.  In addition to the 2 salads at lunch then for dinner I ended up making a dip with Fage and ff cream cheese and fresh herbs, it was really good, I had cucmbers, yellow peppers, and carrots with it.  I also had a Trader Joe's chicken enchilada, I added more lf cheese to it and Fage and home made salsa.  I was stuffed after that.  I did have some sorbet later as a snack.  I did so well eating yesterday it has inspired me today too.  I have only eaten breakfast and it is 1pm, lunch will be at 2 - I am waiting on the DH.  Foir breakfast I had a mini bagel, laughing cow, 1/2 a nectarine - the other half was rotted  and a 40 calorie yogurt with a little Kashi go lean.  For lunch I am going to have some gazpacho I made yesterday and a veggie burger.  Also some melon soup.  I was very busy chopping and blending yesterday.

Melon soup - blended mint, lime juice, canteloupe, and a little yogurt

Gazpacho - blended tomato, cilantro, basil, green pepper, onion, cucmber, garlic, and sherry vinegar.

I also chopped up salsa

So this morning the scale is down 1.2 pounds and I am in the middle of TOM.  I am still up 3.3 from last week when I hit a new low, but I think if I say no to wine tonight I can get back there.  I went to the gym this morning and did an intense arm session and then 8 minutes on the treadmill, I drove home and got on my bike and went 10.75 miles in 52 minutes.

The dip was really good btw I would totally make it for a party, I used probably 1/4 c yogurt and 1 oz cream cheese, I nuke the cc to make it easy to mix then put in herbs I had chopped finely, basil, thyme, cilantro, parsley, and a little rosemary.  I also added a dried citrus blend, next time I would probably go to the trouble of zesting a lime or lemon and adding a little of the juice.  Also put salt and pepper in there.  You would need to make more for a party, I ate the whole little bowl I made but it was a really big serving.  You could also chop up shallots or green onion.  It is supposed to get really hot here this weekend, maybe it will be cooler in Philly.

Catch up day

Today is my day to get caught up with all my nagging errands and stuff I need to do.  Laundry, scanning tax info for the accountant, cleaning the spare bedroom, weeding the garden - you get the picture.  I have accomplished some so far but I am still moving forward with them.  The DH and I went for an early morning bike ride 6:25am we rode for 1 hour 22 minutes and we made it 20.5 miles.  He is also golfing this afternoon so I will be walking the dog on my own later.  My scale was down .5 this morning so I was pretty happy considering I had 2 glasses of wine last night but I also got a ton of exercise.  Anyway today has been great on the eating front I had a peach and a Nutri Muffin - I think that is what they are called, 100 calories.  They are probably the tastiest 100 calorie muffin i have ever eaten.  Sometimes I order them online and they ship them but this time I found them at Whole Foods, $6.00 for 4 - tres pricey but yummy.  I threw them in the freezer and that was a really good plan.  That was breakfast then for lunch 2 different salads leftover, one a green salad with tomato, corn, cucmber, green beans.  The other a salad of zuchinni, tomato, onion, and mint.  I also had a Wasa crisp with lf cheese, another peach, and a 50 cal applesauce.  I am planning on a bigger dinner with protein but I have already eaten all the veg servings I need but I will probably have more later.  Today and Thursday are my no committment days so eating all my meals at home and no wine, I need to get a couple of pounds off before Philly since I know I will gain a couple there.  Anyway got to get back to all the to do list items.    Here is a picture from my "trip" to Iowa for the funeral.  In case you were wondering about the scenic landscape of the midwest

From my garden

A new week

I do like Mondays - I feel like everything is new.  So today I went for a great ride, 23.22 miles.  There wasn't a lot of wind so a little resistance on the way down and then a wonderful ride on the way back.  I got home took a shower, ate brekfast - at 10:45 and then started laundry and some other stuff and it was time to go for my mani/pedi.  After I picked up the DH at work and then came home and ate a salad I had pre made and then it was off to the driving range.  Got back at 4:45 and have been watering the garden, doing laundry and getting caught up on email.  I need to run and get ready for dinner tonight, we are going out with a friend.  Great eating day so far, I plan on some fish tonight so should be fine.  My scale was up Sunday after my drinking at Ravinia which was expected but I also got a visit from Autn Flo so I am blaming that and it should go the other way in a couple of days, probably right before I leave for Philly on Friday.

Did a great job eating at my SIL's yesterday, I brought the salad, that way I knew there would be something for me oh and I brought a veggie burger and light bun for myself too.  She was making turkey burgers but I knew she would use the 7% fat kind and that is too much for me so anyway problem solved.  She did have the Edy's 120 cal for 1/2 cup ices cream so that was a bonus, I had a scoop and 1/4 of a piece of birthday cake.  The kids were all excited and my nephew did love his new fire truck.  I am hoping now that he is 3 he can take a turn for the good in the behavior department.  No exercise to speak of yesterday, the DH and said we woudl go for a bike ride after the BBQ but that did not happen.  Oh well, I will get one in every day this week it looks like and then take Sat and Sun off since I will be oot and staying at my cousins house.

I will post a few pics some are from my vacation and some from my garden.

Sunday Sunday Sunday

A lovely day, I have been to a cheese sale, to the toy store, and the grocery store.  I am just relaxing for awhile before we go to a BBQ for my nephew's 3rd birthday.  It should be a scream.  We bought him a fire truck, a sticker book, and game.  I am bringing a salad and cheese and a carmel pound cake I made.  The frosting is killer and the cake looks like it will be good.  Went for a 21 mile bike ride yesterday and nothing today.  Had a really nice time at the BBQ yesterday, met some new family members of my husbands and then we went to Ravinia.  It was an excellent eating day, I barley ate but I probably had 5 or 6 glasses of wine but hey, I planned for it and now I am back on the wagon today.  We went out for breakfast and I had oatmeal.  Planning a long bike ride tomorrow morning solo and then I getting a mani ped at noon.  This coming week is really busy, we are going to a slow food dinner on Mon night.  A different group dinner on Wed, we are leaving on Fri for Philly and we may be going to dinner or lunch with my DH's cousin and her fater who is in from Memphis on Thursday.

Shopping day

Well I followed my plan for the first part of the day.  No bike ride, but I also passed on the gym too.  I actually watched Oprah for about 15 minutes.  I made another smoothie for brekkie and also a 100 calorie bagel with soy sausage.  So a big breakfast but I ended up needing it.  By the time I got ready and left the house it was noon, my first stop was the bra store.  I had a 25% coupon to use, I found 3 new bras - Yea! and all in black, I realized recently that I did not have a black bra.  Anyway the really good news is that my band size in 2 sizes smaller than before a 36 now - I won't go into the cup size.  Then off to Bloomies for the additional 65% off.  I ended up with only 1 top but it is a gold color and when I got home it looks really nice with a skirt I got a couple of weeks ago.  I tried some jeans on at Banana Republic and more bras at Bloomies and one other store but bought nothing else.  I also went to Genivieve Lethu - it is a French home store, they had some stuff on sale I bought these screen dome covers that you put over the food outside, and a new clear salad bowl with green servers.  It is a really good size bigger than some I have but not too big.  Anyway, I stopped at 3:15 finally for a salad, it did have motzerella and pine nuts but that was all I had.  Then for dinner, the DH made me a sandwich with skinny bread, turkey, soy bacon, nf mayo, mustard, tomato, and lf cheese.  It was tasty, I had carrots and green beans too.  Oh and also some great Queen Anne cherries I ought at Whole Foods.  I am baking a carmel bundt cake and it is in the process of baking over the top of the pan, nothing I can do until it is done so next time I know it makes too much and to put it in another pan.  But once again following the cake rule.  I was going to take it with me tomorrow but I will have to buy something at the bakery on my way out of town.

I am leaving early tomorrow to drive to IA for a funeral at 1:30 and then back in the car to drive back.  I did end up going for a bike ride this afternoon with the DH - 1 hour 15 minutes 17 miles.  I realized that if I go to IA tomorrow I will end up with no workout so that needs to be my day off.  Maybe I should take some weights in the car with me and do bicep curls on the way there.

Love days like these

Just a great day.  I was up early and the DH got up too so I dropped him off at work early which means I got to go for my bike ride early.  I left at about 7:50 and got home about 9:30.  I rode 17.2 miles in about 1 hour 20 minutes.  The computer on my bike only keeps the time when you are moving so stop lights etc don't count.  I had aspirations to watch Oprah, it comes on at 9 here but alas I never got the TV turned on.  I had yogurt, melon, and a little cereal.  then I had a yogurt and fruit smoothie at 10.  For lunch I made us a great salad with all veg and then crab meat.  for the dressing I used fat free ceasar, a little olive oil and balsamic.  Most of the veg came from the farmers market and it was great, fingerling potatoes, cucumbers, green beans, tomato, corn, and celery.  Lettuce too but that was from the regular store.

the weather was great, upper 70's, they said it would only be low 70's but they were wrong, now it is nice and cool with a little breeze and we turned off the A/C.  I was solo for dinner so I tried the Shirataki noodles that the Hungry Girl raves about.  Well - it was great to eat the whole package for 40 calories but they were just OK and I wouldn't say they are a replacement for pasta.  Oh well I tried, it was still good just not amazing.  I cooked zuchini, onion, pepper, and green beans.  Mixed fat free cream cheese with the noodles and then the veg with some fresh basil and the Yves fake pepperoni.  So the whole huge bowl was probably about 300 calories and I was full after.  I had some fruit later for  snack.  I also was baking I made this 4 chocolate loaf cake from the Nigella Feasts cookbook.  It took longer than she said - I am starting to wonder about if the temp on my oven is off.  It looks pretty good but you know the nice thing about a cake is that you can't have any until you serve it.  I am taking it on Saturday either to a BBQ or to Ravinia.  I also need to bake some other stuff for the other event and a brunch on Sunday.

My great aunt who was 94 died over the weekend and the funeral is on Friday.  I have to figure out if I can get there, it is in Iowa so a 4 hour drive.  The DH really needs to work and the funeral is at 1:30.  So I would go alone, my Mom of course is leaving early tomorrow  to go to the wake at 4 and then the funeral.

I ALMOST forgot - after lunch I went for a second bike ride with the DH - only 8.5 miles and 40 minutes but in total for the day that is 2 hours and 25 miles for the day.  I am taking tomorrow off from the bike and going to the gym to do arm resistance weight work.  So a great on plan day - and no alcohol.  The scale was up a little this morning so I am really counting on it gong down tomorrow.  This is the week I am going to break through and get off my same 3 pounds up and 3 pounds down cycle.  I have no plans for Thurs or Fri - except maybe the funeral.  Saturday day is good and then a BBQ and Ravinia.  We are only staying at the BBQ for about 1 hour so I should be able to avoid food there just planning on a really light day so I can eat a little and have some wine at Ravinia.

Finally back

Well I got back last Friday but have been so busy.  I went to a mini family reunion on Saturday and then out for dinner for a friend's birthday.  Sunday we went to the farmer's market.  Monday we went to the new Dark Knight movie, not my kind of movie but it was OK.  A little long but I can see where people would really like it.  I have been getting a ton of cardio which is great, I gained about 3 pounds on my week of vacation and have been trying to get back on track since.  I have been doing ok but little snacks that I shouldn't like cookies or cheese.  Tomorrow is going to be 100% on plan.  I have my whole canteloupe cut up and ready for breakfast.  I will post some pics later I just got them uploaded to the computer this morning.  I am planning another long bike ride tomorrow morning so I have to get up early.  I will post more tomorrow.
