So much for the plan!
Another stressful week has come and gone. And I'm looking at another one ahead of me. Oh well, that's life! So much for my "one day at a time strategy". My food choices were not the best this week. For example, on Thursday, I ate my usual breakfast, then went to a meeting at the county office, where they had a catered breakfast. And I ate a second breakfast of ham and eggs, potatoes and french bread! Then I proceeded to eat a full lunch (sandwich and salad) and dinner. Not good choices! I deserve the half pound increase this week, and then some!
At least my exercise routine is in place.
This week, I'm on vacation for spring break. But I'm not worried, I have a lot of work to do around the house. I won't have time for stress eating. I plan to paint 5 rooms, 2 bathrooms and a hallway. We will be moving to my brother's place by March 28th. So most of the moving will be done within the next week. Like I said, lots to do.
Have a great week everyone!

Stress eating
It's been a busy week! So busy, I forgot to log in my weight for the week on Friday.
My hubby & I have cleaned out the garage (mostly) and we held a yard sale this weekend. We sold off a lot of furniture and odds & ends. It was a fun weekend, but I'm exhausted. We made some new friends, met some of our neighbors that we haven't seen or spoken to in the 12+ years we've lived here (sadly, that happens frequently here in California) and we made a little $.
Of course with all of the tossing away, giving away and selling of our stuff, the stress is building. I only lost half a pound this week. Last weekend, I ate all the wrong foods and drank a few leftover beers from Super Bowl Sunday - not good! Then this weekend, with the yard sale, we ate fast food instead of eating food from the house - also not good. My weight loss is paying the price.
We also obtained and then lost a potential tenant for our house...another stressor. Then in the midst of packing, we had to show the house to people interested in renting it. I'm not the greatest housekeeper, but I hate having people in my house when it's messy - and it's tremendously messy this week. But as of yesterday, we have a new potential tenant who should sign the lease tomorrow - I hope. We are hoping to move to my brother's place in a couple of weeks, and there's still so much to do.
I've got to get my eating under control again! I need to go back to the "one day at a time" mentality.
On the bright side, I finished the walk to wellness program at my work. I also managed to walk at least 10,000 steps per day, from mid-January through March 8th! Yay for me! I'm so glad I was able to meet that goal! One of the office managers in my office wants to be my teammate next year because she has seen how many steps I've walked daily during the program. I'm so honored by that request. This lady is in great shape! If she wants to team up with me, I must have made quite an impression on her.
Well, I'm off to bed. I'm sure I'll sleep well tonight. Have a great week, everyone!

Clothing is too loose!
Three more pounds lost this week! Yay! Although I've lost 53 pounds to date, I've only gone down one size in pants - however I was really squeezing into the stretch versions of my size 22s to begin with. Now, my fitted size 20s are becomming loose. I also haven't changed blouse sizes yet. I've been in a 2X since the start. Again, I squeezed into them at the beginning of this journey. Now, almost everything that's a 2X is hanging off of me.
More people at work are noticing my transformation. I had 3 people yesterday comment on how much weight I've lost. I FEEL SO GOOD!!!
Why do I wait until I'm huge, with potential health problems to turn my life around? I guess the addiction to crappy food really does have a hold on me.
Last weekend, my family visited my brother-in-law, who lives about 100 miles away. On the way home, we stopped at one of our favorite burger joints, that we only get to stop at when we go out that way. We were all starving, as we were eating dinner at about 7:30. I had my "usual" - bacon cheeseburger with chili cheese fries. I considered it to be one of my "pass days", since I hadn't had one in a few weeks. Well, the food tasted awesome! However, it gave me such a stomach ache! I just am not used to eating so much greasy food at one sitting. Even my hubby had a stomach ache. Although he's not trying to diet, he's eating more at home and now taking his lunch to work with him - so he's in the same boat as me. I can't believe how we used to eat that stuff every week - sometimes more than once a week. Yuck!
Anyway, another busy week is ahead of me. We've rented out our house and we need to move by April 1st. Lots to do! I'm sure the extra activity and stress of the move will continue to wear on me. It's not the best way to lose weight, but that's life. I'm trying to maintain a "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade" attitude and keep moving forward with the plans. One day at a time!
Have a great week everyone. Until next blog entry.

Busy week!
My life is beginning to turn upside-down on me! No turning back! We're in the process of renting out our house and moving into a smaller condo with my brother. All furniture will be put in storage, except for beds and dressers, and maybe our desk and file cabinet. My brother's place is fully furnished. On top of packing up our stuff and getting it ready to be stored, we have real estate agents wanting to show the house to prospective tenants! It's hard enough for me to keep the house clean when nothing else is going on. Now, it's almost impossible!
Well, with all of this going on, I still managed to lose 3 pounds this week. I guess the stress of all the moving and the extra activity has helped. I'm also able to stay on my eating plan pretty well. No time to think about extra snacks for now. It will probably remain this way until the move is over and we've settled in - at least 6 weeks away!
I'm also going to cut back on my blogging. There's very little down time right now.
Anyway, what doesn't kill us makes us stronger, right??? These times really help me to appreciate the little things in life, and all of the good times I've had.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Celebrating!
Four pounds down this week! Wow! Like I said in the last post, the stress is seriously affecting how much I want to eat. But this time around, it's in a positive way. Instead of eating everything in site, I'm being careful and my appetite is staying under control.
I even made it through Valentines Day without a piece of chocolate! And no cravings to boot! My office was filled with so many treats yesterday, and leftover treats today, it was a miracle that I didn't give in. There were I can't count how many varieties of cookies, pies, cakes; someone even brought in chocolate-covered strawberries! I've also been sitting in my family room, smelling the frosting on the cupcakes I made for my hubby and sons, which are very slowly being consumed. I've never been a great Valentine's Day consumer. I am of the mindset that it's a "Hallmark holiday", created by companies that want you to part with your hard-earned cash for their pockets. I prefer to show my love to all my loved-ones every day, instead of once a year. So cupcakes were it for this year...no cards, no candy. Luckily, my boys are out of school and are too old for the V-card exchanges. My hubby did buy me a card, which was sweet, especially when it came with no calories!
So today I'm celebrating. Not just the victory over Valentine's Day treat temptations, but because I crossed a major threshhold - my BMI is now in the "Overweight" range, no longer in the "Obese" range. I've never been so happy to be overweight!!! I'm now over halfway down to my goal weight. I'm hoping to keep up this same pace of weight loss for the second half of my journey. If I do keep up this pace, I will meet my goal in less than a year. Woo-hoo!
Have a great weekend everyone!

What a week!
Wow, time flies! I can't believe I missed posting blogs on Friday and Monday. Now it's Tuesday, so this blog will cover the last 2 blog dates and then I'll put in another one on Friday for this week.
Well, I didn't lose any weight in the last week. This is not too surprising, considering the Super Bowl party and eats/drinks and then the 2 days of leftovers that were beckoning me afterwards. I finally got all of the "dangerous" foods - those I truly crave out of the house by Tuesday last week. But the damage was already done. Like I wrote earlier, no great surprise there.
Once the food was out of the house, I tried to do better, but I had a very stressful late week/weekend; so I ate my way up to Thursday. My hubby & I got some bad financial news and all our energy since Thursday has been put toward moving. We knew this was coming, but we were somewhat in denial about it, hoping for positive news. Oh well. We will probably be moving in about 4-6 weeks, going into a much smaller place, sharing my brother's place with him. (Stressful!). We all (my family) will have to work on getting along for quite a while, when living in close proximity. So, since Thursday, I haven't been eating much - just dealing with life. This is quite a change for me. I usually stress eat! Not this time! I'm hoping throughout the changes in my life coming up in the near future, that my weight loss will continue.
Well, they say you need to experience the bad times to appreciate the good times. I guess we're paying our dues.
On the positive side, I do have lots of energy to organize, pack, and delegate activities for my hubby & sons to get this job done! Yay!
That's it for now...hoping for some weight loss in a few days. Have a great week everyone!

Still recovering from Super Bowl
Holy cow! It's taken an extra day to begin to feel normal again after Super Bowl Sunday. Our party was a great success. Each year, it takes what seems to be more energy to get everything ready. This year, we enlisted the help of my oldest son, who came over a day early to help move furniture and stayed late into Sunday evening to help move it back.
I didn't do too good with eating plans. I gave myself a pass for the day. I did have several (3-4, I think) beers - light beers, two tacos, some tortilla chips and 7-layer bean dip and some vegies and fruit. Oh yeah, and a piece of red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting! I've been paying for it for the past 2 days. My goodness! My digestive system cannot handle all of those carbs and junk food!
Yesterday, I came home from work and had some leftover peanuts and another piece of cake before dinner :(
Today, my son came over for some mail and I gave him all of the food we had leftover that's a temptation for me. Thank goodness! Out of cupboard, out of mouth!
I'm afraid of what the scale will reveal on Friday!

Good news on health screening!!!
Wow! What a great week for me! Not only did I lose 2.5 pounds, but the results of my health screening was positive as well.
My cholesterol was 197mg/dL. Anything under 200 is desireable, so that means no meds for high cholesterol - YAY! My BMI is at 30 - this I knew already. I still have about 40 more pounds to go. My random glucose was at 109 mg/dL. Very good for me. No diabetes! My triglycerides are at 120 mg/dL - normal range.
Things to work on - high density lipoprotein was at 43 mg/dL. Too low. I need to eat more healthy fats such as avacado and nuts. I need to get this number up to at least 50 mg/dL. Low density lipoprotein was at 129 mg/dL - too high. I need to eat less unhealthy fats (ugh! That's hard!). I need to get this number down to under 100 mg/dL. Blood pressure - now here's a surprise! It was 132/66. This puts me at prehypertensive. Yikes! My BP is usually low. I have been going through a rather stressful year - maybe this has contributed.
Now that the screening is done, I have completed two items on my Passport to Health program at work (one for the health screening and one for participating in the walking program). Two more to go for one raffle ticket. I love making progress!
I also attended my first health class sponsored by my employer this week. They talked about setting health-related goals and specific activities to meet those goals. I felt so confident about this process, since I'm well on my way to losing the weight I set out to do 3 months ago. I already have a plan and the steps to get there! The next class will involve actually setting the goals (again, already done!) and steps to meet the goals. This should be easy. Once my attendance at this class is confirmed, there's another item on my Passport to Health to be checked off. Woo-hoo!
Looking forward to the weekend. It's Super Bowl Sunday in two days. For those of you reading this not living in the states, it may not be such a big deal. For my hubby, it's the party of the year at our house. My house is the cleanest it's been in a year. We have a nice buffet planned for the guests - taco bar with 3 meats and toppings, plus some healthy choices - vegies and fruits. Of course there will be chips and dips, and alcohol. I probably will not lose much weight this week - but I'll sure enjoy the company and the Super Bowl commercials (I'm not a big football fan).
Have a good weekend everyone!

I'm trying really hard to eat a healthy diet...my will power is being tested!
Happy Monday everyone!
Since yesterday, I've tried very hard to eat healthily (is that a word???). The reason being is that on Wednesday morning, I'm going in for a health screening at work, in which BMI, blood pressure and cholesterol tests will take place. This is a part of my pro-health program at work, and I'll get credit toward one of the end-of-school year raffle tickets (whatever motivates me, right?). I've been avoiding this (cholesterol test) for a couple of years, fearing that I'll be placed on cholesterol-lowering meds. I HATE TAKING MEDS! I read or heard somewhere that eating a low cholesterol diet a few days before the test can help to lower your numbers. I truly hope this is true. My blood pressure has been within the low-normal level all my life - thanks Mom for the inherited low BP! This part, I'm not worried about at all. And, of course, thanks to the weight-tracker on the Extra Pounds website, I already know my BMI. No, it's not perfect but it's getting better.
And, of course, my will-power has been tested all day. The "cupcake queen" at work brought in cupcakes for a co-worker's birthday...chocolate, with maple frosting and a brownie bite on top, drizzled with dark chocolate. Yes, I took one. No, I didn't eat it. It's in a ziplock bag in the refrigerator (in the veggie drawer, where no one else will look), ready to be eaten later in the week. Then I came home to find my hubby decided to BBQ steaks for dinner. Yes, I had him BBQ my steak. No, I didn't eat it. This temptation was more easily avoided. My oldest son came over for a visit and poof! Half of my steak was gone. The other half will go to my younger son, for his lunch tomorrow. Problem solved! I had a vegie burger for dinner. Not as good as steak, but filling. For dessert, I had a fiber one bar. Not as good as cupcake, but it did have some chocolate drizzled on top. I'll live with that!
Then, to reward myself for being good today, I went to the mall with my hubby after dinner to walk. I still needed 3,000 steps to meet my daily goal. He bought me a Starbucks (decaf) coffee - black. Ahhh, heaven! Met my 10,000 steps by 8:00 tonight.
One more day of super good eating behavior before I can tear into that cupcake. Wish me luck! If tomorrow is anything like today, I'm going to need it!

Down 2.5 pounds, but did it the hard way!
What a hard week! Glad it's over. I was pleasantly surprised to lose 2.5 pounds this week. I was wearing heavier clothes and shoes (boots today, for the rain) than usual at the weigh-in.
Anyway, I don't want to repeat what I had to endure this week. I must have picked up that nasty stomach virus last weekend. Although I got through the vomiting by the first day, I had "digestive problems" for the next 4 days (sorry for the TMI, for those of you that are easily grossed out). Yuck! Not a fun way to lose the weight.
Then, to top it off, I'm finally feeling better today and it's raining here. I didn't want to go to work - I'm exhausted from trying to keep up a normal pace when sick. But I had 2 meetings scheduled, one with my boss. So I got myself up and out of my nice, warm bed and dragged myself into the rain to go to work. Got to the first meeting and it's cancelled. Ugh! Okay, got back in my car and went to my office to meet with my boss an hour later. Now I'm not feeling so hot again, as I'm getting wet from walking in & out of the car in the rain. I get to my office, and my boss called in sick. Double ugh! Why did I get out of bed again???
Anyway, on the bright side, I did manage to walk my 10,000 steps each day this week. This also wasn't easy. Some days, I was just a few steps over 10,000, but I did it. As of now, I'm at 12,865 for today - can you tell I'm feeling better?
Have a great weekend everyone!!!
