It's not all bad news

My eating habits haven't gotten any better since the weekend. Right now I'm eating a bowl of Pops cereal in whole milk and washing it down with a glass of koolaid. I did go to the gym today though. And I spent 35 minutes on the treadmill. 2 minutes of which I ran. I'm very pleased with myself. I want to do 2 minutes for the next 2 weeks and then ill add another 2 minutes to it after that. I want to eventually be able to run for 20 minutes. That would be great. Oh, and according to the scale at the gym I lost 5 pounds. I don't know how that happened but tomorrow I swear I'm getting up for breakfast and I'm going to the gym again before work and I'm gonna try a recipie that I got out of a weight watchers cookbook for dinner tomorrow night

Epic Fail

I've been MIA on these forum for almost a month. And I havent been doing any of the lofty things i set out to do. And it was only a couple of days!!!! Its not like I fell off the wagon after a month or 2, it was days, So now im gonna try again. this time I'm going to actually tell people that I'm trying to lose weight. my biggest problem is that I'm trying to do this all by myself. It's like I'm trying to keep it a secret. As if I'm ashamed of the fact that I'm counting calories. Now that I think about it I've been sneaking to use this site, for no reason. From this moment on no more secrecy

small victories

The date is really June 29th but for some reason it's reading up top as the 30th. Anyway I have good news to report. I have had some for of exercise for 3 days in a row! Sunday I burned 300 calories on the treadmill. I was on it for about 40 min or so. Monday I went to the gym and burned 300 calories on the eliptical. Today I didn't make it to the gym so it's back to the treadmill for me as soon as I think the little one is a sleep. I intend to stay on it for 300 calories or so again. I managed to eat breakfast  yesterday and today. I have to try and get into the kitchen to make breakfast sooner though. somehow I think it should be earlier than 10am. As I type this I am working on my fifth bottle of water today. That will put me at 90oz of water for  today. I drank 90oz yesterday as well. unfortunately I drank most of them at night so I was back and forth to the bathroom 3 times last night. It'll probably be the same tonight as well. I managed to figure out the food diary tonight so I'll be logging the foods that I eat during the day there. The activity log still isnt working for me however. when I input the amount of calories I burn for the activity it changes it on its own. Until I figure out why that happening I'll keep track of my activity here. Oh and I got a rough estimate of how many calories were in Kristens recipie. I settled on 705 including the rice. It's a really rough estimate so the next time I make it i'll calculate it again.

I figured out how much water I need to drink a day. You take you body weight and divide it in half. That figure is how many ounces of water you need to drink a day. So for me since I'm 189lbs I need to drink 90 ounces of water a day. My water bottle holds 18 ounces of water so I need to drink 5 bottles a day. That a lot of water!!!  I tried a new recipie today!!! It's called Puerto Rican Stewed Chicken. It's from my friend Kristen's website. It was yummy. I took a picture of it after I put it on my plate. I'll post it tomorrow hopefully. I wish I knew how to figure out how many calories is in that dish so i can keep track. I tried using the food diary and the activity log and neither is working for me. I'll give it another go tomorrow when I have time. If it doesnt work out I'll keep track of what I eat and how much I excersize here. I couldnt get to the YMCA today to I need to use my treadmill before I go to bed.

Goals

So after doing some research I think I know where I'm going wrong.
 
 We tend to eat out a lot. For my lunch break I can go across the street to McDonalds or to the Chinese restaurant or to one of the Jamacian restaurants or I can call Woodland Pizza and get a small pizza or a grinder or a pasta dinner. For dinner we might have some processed junk on hand like ramen noodles, or canned ravioli or some frozen dinners. We cook maybe once or twice a week if we're lucky. I'm not the greatest cook in the world but I'm eager to learn. I photocopied recipies from different cookbooks and I'd like to try all of them at least once. I've tried 4 of them so far and I'm trying another one this weekend.
 
I hardly ever eat breakfast. I read an article somewhere that said people who eat breakfst are 50% less likely to be overweight. That's huge!!! The problem is that I'm not a morning person and I don't really like breakfast foods. I'll eat eggs, cereal and bagels that about it. I suppose I could have a turkey sandwich for breakfast just as easily as I could for lunch. 
 
I'm not a very active person. I want to change that. I recently joined the YMCA. The facilities are wonderful and the staff is very friendly and approachable. I want to workout 4 to 5 times a week. I'm not really sure how long the workouts need to be. I  really want to include some weightt training along with the time I spend on the eliptical. They offer personal training sessions so i think I'll register for one.
 
I love soda!!!! Actually I love Coca Cola. But, it doesnt love me. I'm going to try to cut back to 2 cans a week. I have to cut back on fruit juices too. I only drink 100% juices now but the calories add up. I need to drink more water. I don't know how much water I need per day. They say 8 glasses but what kind of glasses, big ones, little ones? I would be much happier if i could have a figure in ounces. I think I'll look that up when I'm done with this blog.
 
My 2 favorite hobbies, reading and playing World of Warcraft, involve me sitting on my butt for hours at a time. On top of that, I usually stuff my face with something like pretzels or cookies or icecream while I'm reading or playing WoW. I need to find a couple of active hobbies. I'm going to try my hand at container gardening.I'll have to get up and go outside to water the plants everyday. That's a start.  
 
And finally I need to sleep for 8 hours a night. I get 5 to 6 hours of sleep now. I don't think Ive gotten 8 hours of uninterupted sleep since I was pregnant. Ive heard of studies that say that people who get 8 hours of sleep a night weigh less that people who get more or less sleep. I'm going to have to come up with some sort of sleep routine to ensure that I'm getting the right amount of rest
 
 
 
 

A Little Background

Let's get one thing straight, I have no desire to be skinny. I was skinny in high school and I looked and felt like a boy. Then I went to college and gained 20 pounds or so. All of a sudden I had curves!!! I felt womanly, sexy even. For the first time I had boobs, a nice round booty that could rival Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce and when I walked my hips moved with a hypnotic sway. But the weight kept on coming. I gained 5 to 10 pounds a year. Add to that my pregnancy in 2007 and now the curves have become rolls and my sexy strut has become a shuffle since my thighs now rub together when I walk. There are health concerns as well. At 189 pounds I'm knocking on obesity's front door. High blood pressure, high clolesterol and other heart health issues run in my family. I can't put it off any longer I have to make some lifestyle changes while I still have my health.
