Before After

The Holidays are Here!! AHHHHHH!!!

The holidays are right around the corner.  This is the time of year when I usually fall flat on my face!!  I'm actually kind of nervous about being able to resist all of the temptations that come along with the holidays.  The actual Holidays are not the problem. The issue is all of the potlucks, homemade desserts, etc. that everyone brings to the office leading up to the Holidays!!! Honestly, it's already started!! Just this week (and it's only Tuesday) there has already been German Chocolate Cake, pie, and Chocolate Chip Pound cake. The scary part is that it gets worse!! Add the cold weather and the darker days and it's easy to slip back into old habits.  When I get off work and it's already dark and it's cold, all I want to do is come home, eat dinner, find a blanket and a book and call it a night.  Of course this is not the right attitude when you should really be exercising!! ((sigh))

OK, vent over!!  So, what do you do to get through the Holidays?

Unless something is very very very special, I would personally avoid it for the next two months.

Seriously.  I mean special like Aunt Martha's Rum Cake or something like that you only get one time a year.  THEN limit your portions, etc so you can enjoy a taste, but not go overboard.

I mean come on, how many of those potlucks, cakes, cookies etc that are showing up at work are special??  Most of them leave an aftertaste that leaves you saying "what did I do that for??"

My mom likes making what I call pudding pies.  She'll get one of those graham cracker crusts, cut bananas in the bottom and then make pudding to put in it (like banana pudding) and then cool whip on top.

Really, it's not "that bad" of a treat as far as desserts go, but I figured out the calories in a slice of that is about 300-350.... it's not that good or special!  OMG.  Seriously.

So, she made this pie yesterday and I didn't have any!  I'm saving up my cheats for when I go see hunny in 2 weeks.

Have a great day!

Game Plan/Portion Control

I actually wrote out my game plan this holiday as to avoid overeating. It's pretty much a pep talk for myself as well as what I can do when an obstacle (yummy food) tempts me. Some things on my list include taking enough for only 2 small bites and then giving the rest to someone else. They say that we only really actually enjoy the first 2-3 bites of something anyway!

Another thing you can do is actually tell people that you want to be healthy this year and that you don't want to offend anyone by only eating a little. This way you don't get the feeling of being rude if you only get a small helping of something that someone made.

I also have a list of things to keep in my purse at all times. (natural almonds, apple, small bag of salted wheat crackers, and a fiber one chocolcate bar) I do this so that if I crave salty I go for a wheat cracker, if I crave crunchy chocolate I go for the fiber one bar, and so on.) A skinny friend of mine said this is how she gets through the holidays! I love the idea!

Just stay strong. You can do this. And if you overinduldge a little....just workout extra hard that night or the next morning. I plan on weighing in every day when I'm at home for the Holidays. I also plan on exercsing EVERY morning to remind myself to remember to stay strong and healthy during this season! I know you will do fine!

I love the idea of a written game plan.  Writing can be so important.   I think I've got a new huge purse, and a little notebook in it.  I'm pledging right now to WRITE what I eat before I eat it instead of after!

...

I feel your pain!!
I am lucky now in that I get to avoid most of the workplace food temptations as I work from home!!

Perhaps you should always contribute something healthy, that way you'll always have at least 1 thing you can eat guilt free?

I feel your pain!!!!

But just remember, the feeding frenzy is over in a month!  Don't be TOO hard on yourself and we've always got January to pick ourselves up and dust off the cookie crumbs!  :-)
