Before After

It's official: At 170 lbs., I AM NO LONGER OBESE!

Hi!  Hope everyone had a nice weekend. I went up to Maine to visit friends. We had GREAT weather ('til the very end, that is, then we had -- YOU know -- the usual this summer in my area...thunder. lightning and RAIN!) Our bus was over an hour late getting back to Boston because of a lot of traffic, but otherwise, my Maine visit was FANTASTIC!

I have now lost a total of 45 lbs. since 2/25/08.  I am happy to report that I am no longer on the "Obesity Threshold"! I used a formula to calculate my BMI, which is now 28.73 at 170 lbs, 64.5 inches tall. I wanted to verify that with an official resource online; so I found the following:

"The official definition of obesity employed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and by the World Health Organization is a body mass index (BMI) value of 30 or greater, where BMI is the ratio of weight, measured in kilograms, to squared height, measured in meters. For a 5'4" woman, 175 pounds or greater classifies as obese, and for a 5'9" man, the obesity threshold is 203 pounds." goliath.ecnext.com/coms2/gi_0199-7256675/Social-dynamics-of-obesity-Author.html

Since I am taller than 5'4" (by about 1/2-3/4 of an inch) and weigh less than 175 (170), this serves to validate my assertion.

YAY for ME! (And for everyone else who's "Hanging in there!"

Cheers, (carole)

TODAY: Down 44.0 lbs. ( Over 20% initial body weight)!

02/25/08 Start Weight: 215.0
08/04/08 Weight Now: 171.0

Average loss per week 1.91 (for 23 weeks so far)
Total pounds lost so far: 44.0
Lbs. remaining to desired goal of 140 lbs.: 31.0

Just 2 more pounds to lose before I'm completely out of "obesity range" (which is different for different people, I'm just going by BMI).  I'll probably hover around that for awhile, as it seems to the the pattern.  That's okay; it will happen!

My birthday goal (Monday, August 18) is 169.0 lbs. or less.  Think I can do it?  I KNOW I can!

I caught a cold over the weekend, but am otherwise in good spirits.

Have a great week, everyone!

NOW DOWN 42 LBS. (with cushioning)!

Hi, Hope you all had a very nice weekend!

Wel, it's a new week.  As I enter Week 23 of my wellness journey, both of my scales showed under 172 lbs. this morning; however, I'm reporting my weight as 173 in order to provide anticipatory "lapse allowance" for a few upcoming celebrations (vacation time in August and September, my 50th birthday, cookouts, etc.) Of course, I'm hoping not to backslide when facing these temptations, but Hey, I'm only human, after all!

I went to a Balkan Dance party this past Saturday; so that helped a bit, with all the jumping around (line dancing to lively music). I also saw the new "Batman" movie; interesting.  Very dark, very violent, and quite L-O-N-G.  (I still liked it, though.)

On the downside:  My housework is falling behind (again).  I guess I'd better re-read FlyLady Marla's "Sink Reflections" book and get crackin'!

On the UPside, I have uploaded a new avatar and photo for my profile.  This was taken with a Polaroid on July 19, 2008 and is my most current photo to date.  I can clearly see that my face is much smaller in this photo, which is encouraging.  The blurriness of the resolution even makes me look younger, which I like!  I will change later if a get a clearer scan.

Here's to a great week!  (carole)

Only lost .6 this week, but I'll TAKE it!

Hi, I cheated a bit this weekend, but it's the week before TOM so I always get RAVENOUS then! I'm hoping once it arrives I'll drop a few, as I normally do (Due 7/27).

At least I'm still DOWN a bit, but I'd really like to be out of obesity before my 50th birthday (August 18).  That means I need to lose about another 4 lbs. in 4 weeks; so I think I can do it.

Have a GREAT week, everyone!

JUST HIT THE 40 LB. MARK!

Hi, everyone,

FORTY POUNDS DOWN; 35 pounds to go!  My next mini-goal is 43.0 lbs., because that will be my 20% lost milestone; then another 3 lbs. to 169 and I will be out of obesity range!  Okay, let's not get ahead of ourselves here.  It's hard enough making these 170's go down!

It's getting rougher; I keep saying I have to add more activity (and I have), but I have to get more consistent/less sporadic than I am right now; otherwise, I fear I'll just plateau and get stuck here.

Still feeling great.  Went to a baby shower with lots of family who haven't seen me in awhile and they ALL noticed.  That was nice.  I'm going to another family thing on August 17 (the day before my 50th birthday) so that's about another five weeks to make further progress.  We'll see...

Have a wonderful week, everyone!

MIDPOINT MILESTONE ACHIEVED! 39 lbs. LOST!

Hi,

Hope everyone had a terrific 4th of July weekend.  I did!

I am proud to announce that I have now reached over 50% of my 75 lbs. weight loss goal, from 215 to 176 lbs., for a total of 39 lbs. gone. This is next morning's weigh-in following a BIG Italian meal the evening before; so I know I am truly in the 170's now!

Sure, I have nay-sayers (they're supposed to be friends of mine, by the way) who are saying "You never keep it off though", or "You can't keep this going forever" and "You're bound to put it all back eventually", but I'm not even trying to hear that!  I'm the one who decides how this goes, so THERE!  (So--Just how sour ARE those, grapes, anyway?)  I actually said this to one person and she, uhh...didn't like it, but TOO BAD!  I'm going to do this!

Have a wonderful week, everyone!

BACK in the 170's (but BARELY)!

Hi, I spent the last several days making up for my overindulgent mini-vacation, and I am now happy to report a current weight of 179.  Hopefully, I'll be 177 or less by Monday July 7.

I've stepped up my activity; so that should help. I took quite a spill  on my walk to the subway station this AM, scraped my right knee pretty badly and pulled my left BEEhind muscle as I ended up on my back with my legs in the air wearing a DRESS and pantyhose, yet.  I heard a male voice call, "Are you all right?" and there were two guys sitting on an upper balcony across the street from me!  oops.  How "embare-assing"! Thankfully, I was okay, but I had to get bandaids and new stockings, etc. on my way in to work to repair the damage.  (This working out can be dangerous!)

Let's hope the rest of this week goes smoothly.

Have a good one!

SETBACK! FIVE POUND...GAIN?!

It was fun while it lasted!  Okay, I promised to be HONEST.  I was on vacation last week, and the scale shows a FIVE POUND GAIN this week!  (So much for the 170's, I guess -- at least for NOW...)

I'm still down 32 from where I started; so today marks a DO OVER!  I will "do over" as many times as it takes until I'm where I want to be!

My TOM is due on July 3; so that should get rid of at least some of this.  The rest is just overindulgence. I was not tracking any points and I also had alcohol (beer and wine) over the past week; so that's what did it.  Oh, yes and ice cream, and a steak and cheese sub and eggplant parmesan, etc., etc.,   I know how this happened, no question.

I'm back to my food log; so I know I will take this off again.  I'M NOT GIVING UP!

Have a great week, everyone!  HAPPY SUMMER!

I'm in the 170's! I'M IN THE 170'S!!!

Yes, I DID it!  My "heavier" scale says 178.0, as of yesterday before dinner; so I'm SURE I'm in the 170's now!  That's 37 lbs. down from my starting weight of 215 back on February 25, 2008 (16 weeks), which works out to an average of 2.3125 pounds lost per week!  (Lowest weekly loss was 1.0)

My 50% goal milestone will be achieved with a loss of 1/2 lb., since  37.5 will be half my total 75 lb. weight loss goal.  Another five lbs. and I will be at my 20% bodyweight lost; another TEN lbs. will take my out of the "obesity" range, according to most charts!

Eating wisely is almost second nature to me now, as long as I stay away from alcohol and stay aware of what and how much I'm eating. Now I'm working on incorporating more day-to-day activity into my lifestyle.

I'm almost positive I can do this now!  Have a GREAT week, everyone!

Down 1.1 lbs.; now at 180.4

I'm ALMOST outta the 180's!  It will feel so good to be in the 170's again.

(Aside from about a week or so in the late 90's, the last time I was in the 170's was back in 1984!)  It was when I went back to work after having my son and I was 25 years old.  Now I'm almost 50; so that is a big step back in time, figuratively speaking, that is!

I cheated quite a bit out of my usual habit last week; so I'm hoping to make up for that this week and show a better loss on my next weigh-in, June 16.

Have a GREAT week, everyone!
