Before After

Back down to 166!

Hi, Everyone!  HAPPY WEEKEND!

In the Weight Watchers at work meeting on Thursday (with clothes on after breakfast, no less), I weighed in at 166.0 lbs.! Woo-HOO!

It gets even better.  My scale at home is showing just under 165!  That is the FIFTY POUND MILESTONEI don't dare record that until after my TOM (due on 10/6) and until my next official WW weigh-in (Thursday the 9th).

The curious thing is that yesterday I had 90 ounces of beer and bruschetta with LOTS of olive oil! (Yeh, that is NOT a typo!  I occasionally "likes me some brew!")  Little lapse there...but I'm back in the saddle again!  I hope those beers don't catch up with me later!  I've still been working out; so maybe I can "outrun" them!  I sure hope so!

What I've found to my my personal experience is that I seem to be able to go overboard (as in WAY overboard) about once every other week and I can still keep in check and do damage control, provided I keep up with the exercising.  When I don't really MOVE, then I get in trouble.

I'm getting ready for dinner:  A whole can of Progresso lentil soup with added spinach and lemon juice.  It's a little late (almost 9PM) but I'll probably be up late tonight anyway.

Cheers and here's to a wonderful weekend, all!

OOPS-but wait! 168?!

Yeah, I was feelin' fine at 49 (pounds, that is) but it seems I've crept back up a bit.  Weight Watchers at Work (with clothes on and after breakfast, said 168.8 this Thursday, but my scale at home says 168 even, and I'm sticking to it!

So now it's THREE more pounds to go until I hit my 50 lb. milestone, but I can wait.  I know I'll get there.

“To get through the hardest journey we need take only one step at a time, but we must keep on stepping."  -Chinese Proverb

Have a GREAT weekend, everyone!

Feelin' fine, I'm down 49!

Hi, My heavier scale said 165 this morning, but I'm not ready to record my 50 lb. milestone yet -- I want to wait until the Weight Watcher's at Work scale says 166 or less; THEN I'll report my 50 lb. loss.  I'm interested to see if it stays the same (or goes lower) by next weigh-in on Friday, September 26.

Vacation was great!  I cheated a little bit, but I worked out every day, and that made all the difference.  That just goes to show, "If you want it to work, you've got to WORK IT!"

Have a great weekend, everyone!

I'm BAAAaaack! Down another pound and feelin' sound!

Hi, everyone, I had been treading water, just maintaining, losing motivation and getting bored; so I volunteered to be the first to keep a "travel journal" of food, beverages and activity to share at our Weight Watchers at work meeting.  As it turns out, I'm off today (our regular meeting); so it looks like I'm going to be keeping it for 2 weeks, and everyone will be reviewing it!

I was on vacation with friends for this first week, and I actually LOST weight on vacation!  As of this morning, the scale shows 168, a total loss of 47 pounds since February 25 of this year!

Although I did go over on points a bit, I also worked out on most days.  This is what I credit to being able to take off another pound.

Thank you for visiting my blog and have a great day!

All I have to say is: OOPS!

Hi, Everyone,

I've been "MIA" for awhile because I still seem to be in a temporary holding pattern that fluctuates between 169 and 172.  Why, you may ask?  Because I stopped keeping my food log, that's why!   I'm not going "whole hog" (exactly), but I definitely have been somewhat lax, of late!

I therefore plan to renew my resolve and start writing things down again beginning this Friday, September 12.  After all, I'm going to be "down the Cape" (Yarmouth) for a few days and I'd better not mess up!  It might be easier, actually, because one of my friends who will also be there recently had the Lap Band surgery and will be very limited in her food options.  I won't want to be enjoying "regular" food in front of her too much and will want to fix things she can eat, like guacamole (not too spicy), hummus, crustless pumpkin pie and so on.  My other friend is trying to get healthier, too; so I think I should be able to stay on track, provided I keep track of what I'm eating and try to work out while I'm there.

I expect to weigh 170 lbs. this Friday.  I'm going away this Saturday and will probably come back home on Wednesday.  This is going to be a challenge, to say the least.  I start chorus, Bulgarian dance and Hula this week; so that should help a bit.  I'm also still walking a lot, but I've also been drinking more alcohol again (not a LOT, but too much for a weight loss program)  That has GOT to stop.  My friends who will be down the Cape with me do not drink at ALL; so that should make it easier, too, since none of my "party" friends will be there,  ha-HA!)

I still plan to weigh 140 or less by Spring, 2009.  HOWEVER, In order to do that, I will have to lose 1.1111111111111111111111111111111 lbs. per week for the next 27 weeks (Actually, the precise calculation is 1.1111111111111111111111111111111*27 = 29.999999999999999999999999999997 pounds!  (Close enough.)  SURE I can do that, especially if I start getting into my "Hip Hop Abs", "Zumba" and "Core Rhythms" DVDs (GOTTA watch those sometime!  D*mned Infomercials!)

ANYway, that's where I am right now.  Treading water, but still in it to WIN it!

Hope to hear more from you all soon.

Cheers and Best Wishes!

169 and holding...

Hi, Everyone!

Well, the Labor Day weekend is here and my scale still shows 169.  That's okay.  WW scale on Thursday said 170.5, but I had had breakfast recently and I was wearing all my clothes, LOL!

Went to a Bulgarian dance party on Friday night so I burned a lot of calories. I'm helping my son and his girlfriend move on Monday so that will burn more.  I'll also try to do a couple of exercise videos before returning to work this Wednesday.

Have a GREAT long weekend, everyone!

Part II of PROOF! You CAN eat 28 points per day...!

The absolute simplest way to figure out how many calories you need to lose 1 pound per week is:

1) First, figure out your BMI. The formula for this is:  (Your weight in lbs/(your height X your height)) X 703.1 (NOTE: 18.5-24.9 is the healthy weight range.)

2) THEN what you do is:  Multiply your weight in lbs by: 11 (if your BMI is under 24.9), 10 (if it's under 30) or 9 (if it's above 30)

3) THEN, multiply that number by your "activity factor" (below):

Activity factors:
1.1 - not active, never exercise
1.2 - exercise 1 day a week
1.3 - exercise 2-4 days a week
1.4 - exercise 5 days a week
1.7 exercise every day

E.g., ME!, Even if I get down to 150 lbs at 64.5 inches (5 foot 4.5 inches), as long as I exercise for an hour at least 3 days a week:

BMI: 150/(64.5x64.5) x 703.1 = 25.35
Then: 150 x 10 =1,500
Then: 1,500 x 1.3 = 1,950

So I would need 1,950 calories a day - to MAINTAIN a weight of 150 lbs., provided I work out at least 1 hour for 3 days per week.

4) To LOSE 1 lb. per week, I should eat 500 cals. less than that; so 1950 - 500 = 1,450 calories per day to LOSE 1 lb./week at 150 lbs.

See? Once I get below 150, I would probably start working out 5 days per week in order to be able to keep my intake at 1,400 per day.
So what's the BOTTOM LINE? There are only TWO key factors to remember to make this really, really work: 1) Write down EVERYTHING you eat to include in your daily totals so you don't go OVER (mints, gum, fish oil capsules, Crystal Light, etc.) and 2) Activity, Activity, Activity! (Work out for an hour at least 3 times per week and it's SO EASY!) There is absolutely no reason why I shouldn't be able to continue to lose at least 1 pound (average) per week so long as I don't average over 1,400 calories per day & I work out at least 3 times per week!

Once I got used to it, I've found that 1,400 calories per day is PLENTY! It's even enough for the occasional treat, your glass of wine with dinner or even a real "splurge" once in a while, provided you make up for it without "starving" yourself and keep up your activity level. I've proven this many times over in the past six months, and that means YOU can, too!

Enjoy the journey!

PROOF! You CAN eat 28 POINTS per DAY and lose at LEAST 1 LB. per week!

PART 1: Hi!

This is a long one, but I think you'll find it's worth it. I did it for me and for all of my friends who are "on the same trip"!

I have not eaten less than 1,450 calories per day (29 points) in 6 months and have averaged about 1.77 per week weight loss so far. As of last Friday, August 22, I have now switched to 1,400 calories per day (28 points).

PLEASE, please, DO NOT listen to ANYONE ("Nutritionists" and Weight Watchers personnel included) who tries to tell you to eat less than 1,300 calories per day! Personally, even less than 1,400 would be very difficult for me, and I don't believe I would be able to stick with it at all! Any nutritionist should tell you that if you cut back too much you'll slow your metabolism down, not to mention you will become irritable, fatigued and less able to concentrate. Your body will be trying to hold on to every calorie it gets, which is counterproductive to our aim. Plus, you'll feel too cranky, tired and listless to exercise. (By the way, I put "Nutritionists" in quotes above because no decent nutritionist nor doctor should ever tell you to eat less than that.) Feel free to show this to your doctor, but he or she might still try to cut you back further-oops. See next post...

Weight displayed on BOTH scales just under 169 at 8PM!

Happy Weekend, Everyone!

Unfortunately, we didn't have our 1st WW at work meeting because our leader was involved in an auto-accident that morning.  (A truck hit her car!)  From what I understand, she's okay, thank God.  So {hopefully} NEXT week.  Therefore, I have now changed my weigh-in days to Friday to follow the WW meetings planned for Thursdays.

I am very pleased to report that, even following a week of rather lax adhesion to my usual program due to my 50th birthday's arrival, my weight this evening (on BOTH scales) shows that I am now just under 169!  Granted, it was right after a 2.3 mile walk at 4.3 mph, but STILL, my water showed over 45%, which is considerably higher than it is first thing in the morning, so WHOOPEE!  I don't dare claim 160s until I'm consistently 168 or below, but I will be!

Oh, yeah, and I've been wearing size 12 zip-up pants! (Not jeans, of course, but dress pants -- YES!!!)  So far I have four pair that I have been wearing; so tomorrow I'm going to PITCH all of my 1Xs, 18s, 16s...(Still gonna hold on to any 14s though, for "those days", you know!  ; )

Best wishes to all of you for a spectacular, fun weekend!  We're having great weather right now here in Boston, and I plan to take full advantage by being outside as much as I can!  Hope your weather's good, too -- Enjoy!

Stayed the same following my birthday week

Hi, Everyone,

I am now officially 50!  I had a very nice birthday week; now back to work! Weight Watcher's at Work starts on Thursday; so from now on I will begin recording my weight on Fridays instead of Mondays. I will take WW's weigh-in into consideration, of course, but will actually count what my digital scale at home says (sans clothing, of course) on Thursday evenings and plan to report it on Fridays.  Although I will have clothing on at my WW work weigh-in, I'm hoping it says 170 or less, because I don't want the "number" on their scale to "freak me out".  (Either that, or I can allow 2 lbs. for clothes, etc.)  We'll see.

Have a great week!
