Before After

Three weeks off takes one and half weeks to get back on!

Well shortly before I went to Paris, I slacked off on my running. The last day I ran was June 28th. I know this because my Nike nano tracks all that for me. At that point, I was finishing up the Couch to 5k program and was running thirty minutes straight with no walk breaks. After I got back from Paris, I didn't attempt to run again until July 18th. OMG, it was hard! Since then, I've been running three days a week and was having to take walk breaks again, though they were getting a little less each time.

Monday morning I only had to take one walk break, and it was less than one minute. Today I was able to run the whole thirty minutes again! I was so happy. It nearly killed me, especially since it was 80 degrees already at 6 am, but I did it! So it took me half the time I took off to get back where I was. This week is the first week of our half-marathon training. It is 17 weeks in length. I'm doing a 5k Friday night and it will be my first official time since completing Couch to 5k. I'm anxious to see how fast I can finish it, since my time is usually faster in a race with all the adrenaline and excitement.

Good luck!

Good luck at the race Friday.  Where is it?  Is it at SF?  Dog Days of Summer or something?

It's hard to get back to where you were with running.  Especially with the temperatures we've been having.  But you can be proud that you are doing it!

good luck!

Good luck Friday!  That's great you were able to run the entire 30 minutes.  I can't wait to get back to doing that!!!

Congrats!

I know it must feel good to be back at that level of running without stopping for 30 minutes, and then, just as you're starting your half-marathon training!  Your 5K Friday night is the one at Ridgelake, isn't it...Run from the Sun...Run for the Shade(LOL)...something like that?

You're so right about the adrenaline/excitement of a 5K spurring you on to move faster!  A coworker(from my last job) and I planned to walk/jog what used to be called the Oak Hall Run for St. Jude 5K several yrs ago...which was also the last time I was barely below 200 lbs.  Of course we planned to walk more than we were going to run, but getting caught up in the crowd, and the excitement, we wound up finishing in 42:XX(can't remember the seconds...I have it written somewhere at home, because that was the fastest I've ever done a 5K since being overweight!).  LOL...definitely not "speedy" ...just about a 14 minute mile, but better than we ever expected to do!

You'll have to post your results sometime over the weekend!  Good Luck!

Good Luck!

Good luck on the race tonight!  It's going to be super hot, so hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!  But you know that!  Let us know your results over the weekend!

Good Luck~

I"m sure by the time you read this, you'll be done with your race and won't need luck.  Hope it all went well!
