Before After

Good day!

I found my heart rate monitor this morning.  I was sooo unbelievably happy.  Apparently it was, at one point, exactly where it was supposed to be.  It had fallen off of the bathroom counter at my dad's house... right where I left it... and behind some cleaning stuff on the floor.  I guess if I cleaned a little more often I would've found it.  LOL.  Just kiddin'... it was at my dad's house.  Maybe HE needs to clean more often!

But anyway, it has been located and I can, once again, keep track of my calories burned on my HRM.  I have missed it sooo much.

Earlier I was on the phone with my DH and I was bemoaning the fact that I don't know how I will ever get everything done that I need to do today.  I have to work late and have about an hour and a half of workouts scheduled, plus I have to cook dinner, etc... He said "You work out.. I'll cook"

This day just keeps getting better and better.

If I could just stay out of the stupid candy bowl at work, it would be perfect!  Stupid Willy Wonka!  D@#* Laffy Taffy!  UGH!  Oh well,   At least I'm working out today.  I will be glad when we get our new office ready and move into... there will be 4 of us sharing an office then, and the candy bowl is going somewhere other than MY desk!

Well, I have a few loose ends to wrap up and then I am getting out of here for the day, heading home to do some Plyometrics!  Wooo hoooo!  (That's sarcasm.. i despise plyometrics... but I have heard they help you run faster)

Have a great evening everyone and think of my while my daughter is telling me, once again tonight, that the guy with the fake leg can jump higher than me.

My weekend

I had a pretty good weekend.  Friday night we really didn't do a lot... Just stayed around the house.  My youngest daughter and my son both spent the night with friends, so it was just DH and I and our oldest daughter.  It was a very quiet evening.  I got my P90X workout in and a 3.5 mile run on top of it.

Saturday, we did laundry and ran a few errands, then we watched a movie and relaxed in the evening.  I did my P90X Kenpo X (kickboxing type deal) DVD.  I needed to do a run to make up a skipped run earlier in the week, but I just couldn't do it.

Yesterday I got up and did my weekly long run (7 miles this week) and then DH and I did our budget and cooked a tremendous pot of homemade vegetable soup.  Yummy.  Then we watched another movie... and that's about it.

Pretty uneventful, but that's the way I like it.  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Feelin' down... don't know why...

Do you ever just have those days where you feel kinda blue... and have no idea why?  I am having one of those days today.  I know that I am abundantly blessed in my life, and I really have nothing to feel down about... but I do.  I just want to go home and crawl back in bed today, pull the covers up over my head and sleep the day away.

Maybe it's the weather.  It's rainy and dreary today.  Maybe it's because I didn't finish my workout last night and I didn't get energized from that.  Maybe  it's because I didn't get a lot of sleep.... Maybe it's a combination of all of the above?  I just don't want to do anything but eat and sleep.

When I get off work, I plan to get my workout done.  Maybe that will help me feel better.  I am actually considering knocking off work a little early today to go home and get some extra sleep in and get my workout done early in the day.  I don't know how that will go over with my boss, but it's worth a shot.  I'm pretty much useless here today anyway.  Not getting a whole heck of a lot accomplished with the way I'm feeling right now.

Anyway, yesterday's workout was P90X Yoga, which is 92 minutes long.  I think I did about 35 minutes of it, if that.... My problem was that with yoga, you are supposed to control your breath and clear your mind and focus on the moves... that wasn't happening with three kids bickering and so much going on around me.  It was frustrating. So I stopped altogether.  Oh well... maybe next time I can actually finish it.

So, back to work now.  Have to laminate something for an engineer and then call my boss and tell her I'm sick. <cough cough>.  Have a great day everyone.  Sorry if I bummed you out.  LOL

Happy Wednesday

Happy Wednesday y'all!
Yesterday I did P90X Plyometrics... and besides my daughter's comment... "The guy with the prosthetic leg can jump higher than you, mom"...,  It was great!  I was sweating pretty good and my legs got quite a workout.  Oh, if only I had my heart rate monitor to know how many calories I burned.  (sigh)

Today is P90X "Shoulders and Arms" AND a 3 mile run that I skipped yesterday.  I should have run first, but I didn't... and after all the plyometrics, squats & lunges, I wasn't thinking a run would be such a good idea.  So, I'll jump on the treadmill first thing when I get home today.  OR, I could swing by the house and change clothes and get my run in outside in the neighborhood while I wait for the kids to get home from school, and then do my P90X workout.  Sounds like a plan to me.  I just have the greatest brainstorms when I'm blogging.  LOL.

I got my new cell phone yesterday.  I love it.  I love it when it's time to renew the ol' contract and we get to upgrade our phones.  It's like Christmas all over again.  LOL

Well, gotta do some work.  We have a meeting this afternoon and I have a lot to do before meeting time.  Have a great day everyone!

Oh my!

I can't believe it's been so long since I posted.  I have been keeping up with most of my stuff on sparkpeople.com lately... tracking my food and exercise and all... but I still have to come here to blog and check up on my friends.  Things have been so crazy the last few days, though, I really haven't had a chance.  If you haven't checked out sparkpeople yet, and you decide to, my username is bmiddlebrooks.  Make sure you look up my sparkpage and comment me.  It's a great site.  Almost like myspace for weight loss.

I started P90X yesterday!  The first DVD was Chest and Back, followed by Ab Ripper X, and MAN am I ever feeling it today.     It was a really great workout.  Of course, I had to do beginner modifications on almost all the exercises, but I still got a great workout.  DH took my before pictures Sunday, so I will get them posted as soon as I can.  Then I'll post my 30, 60 and end of program pics when the time comes.  I can tell it's going to give me great results though!  It just makes me that much more excited about it.

I shelled out the money this morning for my half marathon, so I am officially registered now.  I have my race registration submitted and my hotel reservations made, so I am going to run this race.  I can't wait!   I am a little intimidated by 13.1 miles, but I have a feeling that once I finish it, the 'I wanna run a MARATHON' bug is going to bite me.

Well, it's a pretty busy day here at work today and break time is over, so I need to get back to work.  Have a blessed day everyone.

What state do I live in again??

Geez, I thought I lived in GEORGIA!  I woke up this morning, and I swear I have been transported to another (very cold) state while I was sleeping.  It was 20 degrees this morning!!   Yes, I said 20... TWENTY!    It's not supposed to be this cold.  There's a reason I live in the south...

Ok.... I was born here.  That's why I live here.... but still....

Ok, on to the topic at hand.  I am having serious issues with my scale at this point.  I don't generally weigh myself more than once a week, but this week I admit to jumping on the stupid scale EVERY morning.  No change.  Nothing.  It's been fluctuating a lot, a little up one day, back to the usual weight the next day.  I know that the last few pounds are the hardest to lose... but this is ridiculous.  I have been working out every day (almost) and eating pretty well.. staying within my calorie range every day.  But nothing is changing.

I am still doing better than I was at this time last year.  I think I just need a change.  I need to start my new program to break through the plateau and get toned up.  I am starting Monday.   That's the main reason I am excited about doing P90X.  I know it will build muscle, which will probably mean a little gain on the scales, but I also know tht muscle burns more FAT all the time, which I am excited about.  Who can't get excited about burning more fat while SLEEPING.  HAHAHA.

Yesterday's workout was a 4 mile run with a half mile warm-up and a half mile cool-down for a total of 5 miiles.  I had planned on doing some strength training as well, but DH needed to work out, so I cooked dinner and let him have it.  By the time I finished cooking, I didn't feel like doing anything else.

I am going to eat breakfast now... Kashi Go Lean oatmeal...  Then I am going to do some work, since they are paying me to be here and all.  LOL

Have a great day everyone.

Is it Monday all over again?

Talk about messing with someone's mind?  It sooo feels like Monday all over again!  I came in to work on Monday for a few hours, then off yesterday... now it feels like Monday again.  At least it's not.  Geez, I don't think I could do a whole week!

My goal is to buy a chin-up bar before the weekend is over and start P90X on Monday.   I did go ahead and do the Ab Ripper X DVD on Saturday... and it was a killer.  It's the shortest one at 16 minutes, but it packs a whole lotta ab work into that 16 minutes.  I can't wait to get started with the whole program.  I am getting DH to take my before pictures this weekend.  I do my measurements on Sundays anyway, so it should be a good time to go ahead and snap those pictures as well.

My DH and I are on day 3 without a cigarette.  New Year's Eve was not pretty.  It was bad bad bad.  First night and all.... Let's just say, though, that miraculously, our marriage survived and we are still smoke free.

I hope that all of you had a wonderful New Year's Eve and New Year's Day and are ready to face 2008 head on!  This is our year, y'all!  (My southern twang is comin' out, so I MUST be fired up!!)  Let's ROCK 2008!

P90X has arrived.... Time to get serious.

My P90X arrived Saturday.  I am sooo excited.  I still have a few things to buy (pull-up bar and such) so I can't start quite yet... but I watched the getting started DVD and even previewed one of the workouts.  OMG!  It is going to absolutely kick my butt.  But that's exactly what I need!  After I watched the workout DVD, my husband asked me if I was excited.... I said "More like intimidated!"  LOL

I weighed for the first time since Christmas yesterday.  It was 119... a gain of 3 lbs.  Then I weighed again this morning and it was 116, so I am back where I started from.  Maybe I was just retaining water yesterday or something.

I was doing some thinking this morning and here's what I came up with:

Not only is another year about to begin, but today is the first official day of my 13 week half marathon training program. I think it's about time I got serious about this whole 'becoming healthy' thing. I keep SAYING that it's what I want, but my actions don't agree with my words. I know that if the two don't line up, then I am not going to make any progress. So WHY do I do it? Am I sabatoging my own success? Do I not want it badly enough? Why??

I really AM ready to do this. Now, I have my P90X,  I have a workout schedule made out for the next 13 weeks, that I MUST stick to in order to be ready for 13.1 miles on March 30th. I have three children who learn from me, and imitate my actions. If I SAY I am going to do something and then don't follow through, what am I teaching them?

It's time to make the REAL commitment. It's time to get serious.

Happy New Year everyone... and here's to RENEWED COMMITMENTS in 2008!

~Becki~

Waiting

I hate waiting.  Anticipation.... KNOWING that something good is coming, but not having it quite YET.  My husband ordered the P90X system for me for Christmas, and I'm still waiting for it to arrive.  I can't wait to get started, but I can't yet!  So frustrating.  Hopefully it'll be here to start 2008!

I am doing ok with my new resolve to not overeat on the Christmas goodies that are still in the fridge.  I managed to give away all of the fudge at work yesterday but the rice krispy treats and the cherry pie still linger in the fridge. The cherry pie is not that big a deal... I'm not a big fan... but the rice krispy treats are another story entirely.  I may just throw the rest of them out tonight when we take the Christmas tree down... all Christmas stuff out by tonight.

I ran 2.5 miles last night on the treadmill and walked another half mile (warm up and cool down) and did a little ab work after my run.  I am already feeling my abs this morning.  Who knew I even HAD abs!!!?  I'm like.. WOW... they ARE underneath that layer of fat somewhere.

Catch Up With Ceci St. GemeCheck out the abs on this 44 year old mom of 6... (2nd from the left of the pic...)  Ceci St. Geme.... She runs 45 miles a week!!!  And I soooo want her abs!

Ok, so back to work now... At break time, I am going out walking and hopefully try to squeeze in a little walk at lunch too.  I am doing a virtual walk challenge on another site.  I have 1947 miles to walk/run from my town to Phoenix Arizona!

Have a happy and blessed Thursday everyone.

Christmas Recovery

Well, the big day has come and gone.  My kids had a wonderful Christmas and we enjoyed spending time with family and being together.  I haven't gotten my gift from my husband yet.  He was a little late ordering it, so it won't be here until next week, I think.  I am getting the P90X workout system.  I am sooo excited I can hardly stand it.  I am looking so forward to getting it and getting started.

I totally overindulged from Sunday until yesterday.  Sunday we went to my husband's dad's side of the family Christmas get together, and I ate WAY too much.  Monday I baked a cherry pie and banana nut bread (2 loaves actually) for my hubby, and indulged in some of those.... and yesterday we went to my Mother in law's for the big Christmas dinner... and OMG.... she made fudge!  I ate too much of that too, not to mention the turkey and dressing and peas and candied yams, etc....!  THEN she loaded me down with a plate full of the fudge to bring home!  I brought it to work today and have been giving it away all morning.  LOL

I don't even want to look at the scale at my next weigh-in.  I haven't run or done any kind of workout since Thursday.  But tonight, it's back to the treadmill for me.  The junk fest is over!

Hope you were all blessed beyond human comprehension this holiday season and that you continue to be blessed in the new year!
