Rapid weight loss is better than slow?

There's so many conflicting ideas about weight loss, and every time something becomes the accepted truth, another conflicting story comes out.  I read an article in the paper recently that claimed rapid weight loss is better than slow -- and it's confirmed on several online articles as well.  But the conventional wisdom has always been slow and steady wins the race -- especially if you want to keep it off.  What to believe now?

I must say I agree with the rationale in the story that when weight loss is too slow, you lose motivation.  But is it healthy to lose weight rapidly?  I mean -- what would you have to do to keep it coming off at a rapid pace -- restrict calories to extreme levels, or just work out heaps  more?  It's no wonder we struggle -- even the experts can't agree.

emmm tough one!

I have never had the trouble of losing weight fast so really can't comment, I know binge dieting is unhealthy and some people kick start diets by not feeding there bodies which is one of the reasons they lose so much so early in their diet, not a good idea.

We know what our bodies need and want it is just a matter of giving it what it wants and doing all we can to keep it healthy.

Hmmm....

One thing that makes me against the more rapid weight loss is the fact that your skin doesn't bounce back as easily.... I don't want saggy skin.

...

i know for me if i take extreme measures and lose it quick i can't maintain it.  i am going for slow and steady but at the moment it's ground to a standstill ...
