Back home and holding steady.
I'm back from Adelaide and I gotta say, it was a lovely city. I would
love to go back there when not on business, as I didn't have time to do
much of anything. Flew there Thursday, presentation Friday afternoon and
flew back Friday night. We did walk through the Rundle Mall but
everything was closed up by that time. Strange because here everything
is open late on Thursday nights so I assumed that was an Aussie
tradition.
I packed some wraps and muesli as planned, and was delighted when I was
picked up by an actual limousine this time instead of a bus! How cool is
that. So I ate the muesli when I got to the airport and then waited for
my flight. It was delayed over 2 hours!! Grrrr. It wasn't just my
flight, I guess all the airlines were delayed -- some sort of problem
with air traffic control. Anyway, I did eat a couple of wraps on the
plane (1.75hr flight) and got a taxi to the motel. My boss was waiting
in the lobby -- the rooms weren't ready. What the? I was 2 hours late,
and they still weren't ready!? So we waited. Finally got our rooms,
cleaned up and went on a walk to find the convention centre. We headed
right to the next main street and turned left. We did find the place
and figured out where it was we needed to be the next day, then took a
wander around looking for a Thai restaurant. We didn't find any but did
walk through the Rundle Mall a bit and then walked down a few side
streets looking. Nothing. So we went back and ate at the cafe next to
the motel. The next day after our presentation we walked back a
different way and passed 2 Thai restaurants. LOL If we'd only turned
left out of the motel instead of right we'd have found them. Anyway --
the pasta dish at the restaurant was just penne, vegetables and red
sauce. Not too bad a choice.
By the next morning my remaining wrap was too mushy so I pitched it. I
had some muesli and soy milk with me but no bowls in the room. There
were coffee cups but they didn't smell quite right, and after watching
that YouTube video
about the cleanliness of hotel dishes I just couldn't use it, so I
cut my water bottle in half and used the bottom as a bowl so soak my
muesli while I got ready to go. It worked great. :)
Lunch at the centre did have some vegetarian options but they had cheese
and/or eggs. I ate a bit of salad, picking around the feta, and
grabbed a couple of the small wraps (like 2" pieces) which were all
roasted veggies and cottage cheese. It wasn't too hard to find a couple
that had relatively little cheese to veggie ratio and scrape out the
bit of cheese that was in them, but it wasn't very satisfying either. So
I was hungry after the conference was over. We went back to pick up
our luggage and await the taxi to the airport and I noticed a Subway
across the street so I grabbed a 6" veggie patty sub to go. That and a
small bag of veggie chips tided me over well.
So overall I didn't eat TOO badly those two days but this morning I
didn't see any loss on the scale. No gain either, thankfully, I held
steady. But I did the best I could do for those 2 days and all I can do
is get right back to healthy choices. Hopefully I'll see a drop next
week.
I did find air travel, especially 2 days in a row like that, messes with
my head a lot. I have allergies and sinus troubles anyway, so they
really flare up when I fly. And from the sound of it, I'll be doing a
lot more of that in the future.
