Let It Snow!

Good morning!

I got quite an unexpected workout last night:  shoveling for over 45 minutes.  That's one activity point per ten minutes.  Yay!  My back is a little tender this morning, though, and I have one hell of a headache.  Here's the view from my office window.  My father is out there on the tractor doing what he loves best.

Okay- I really don't know how to use this stupid image uploader thingie.  You probably don't see the picture, so you'll have to use your imagination.  Picture tons of snow and ice-covered trees with branches almost touching the ground.  It is quite beautiful to look at, as long as you're looking at it through the window of a building (not a car).

Anyway, I have to do my C25K Week 6 Day 2 later on, in addition to my weights.  I think I'll wait for the power to stop flickering first.  I can see the headlines now:  Woman sustains severe head injuries when power outage causes her treadmill to stop at 6 MPH.  That would be just lovely.

Have a wonderful day, everyone!

Tuesday Funny

A WOMAN'S WEEK AT THE GYM

This is dedicated to everyone who ever attempted to get into a regular workout routine.

Dear Diary,

For my birthday this year, my daughter (the dear) purchased a week of personal training at the local health club for me.  Although I am still in great shape since being a high school football cheerleader 43 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try.

I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Belinda, who identified herself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear.  My daughter seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started!  The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.

MONDAY:
Started my day at 6:00 a.m. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Belinda waiting for me. She is something of a Greek goddess - with blond hair, dancing eyes and a dazzling white smile. Woo Hoo!!  Belinda gave me a tour and showed me the machines. I enjoyed watching the skilful way in which she conducted her aerobics class after my workout today. Very inspiring!

Belinda was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time she was around. This is going to be a FANTASTIC week-!!

TUESDAY:
I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door.  Belinda made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air then she put weights on it! My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile. Belinda's rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT-!! It's a whole new life for me.

WEDNESDAY:
The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn't try to steer or stop. I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking lot.

Belinda was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered other club members. Her voice is a little too perky for that early in the morning and when she scolds, she gets this nasally whine that is VERY annoying.  My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Belinda put me on the stair monster. Why the hell would anyone invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Belinda told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. She said some other shit too.

THURSDAY:
Belinda was waiting for me with her vampire-like teeth exposed as her thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl. I couldn't help being a half an hour late - it took me that long to tie my shoes.

Belinda took me to work out with dumbbells. When she was not looking, I ran and hid in the restroom. She sent another skinny bitch to find me.  Then, as punishment, she put me on the rowing machine -- which I sank.

FRIDAY:
I hate that bitch Belinda more than any human being has ever hated any other human being in the history of the world. Stupid, skinny, anemic, anorexic little cheerleader. If there was a part of my body I could move without unbearable pain, I would beat her with it.  Belinda wanted me to work on my triceps. I don't have any triceps! And if you don't want dents in the floor, don't hand me the damn barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich.  The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition teacher. Why couldn't it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the choir director?

SATURDAY:
Belinda left a message on my answering machine in her grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing her voice made me want to smash the machine with my planner; however, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended up catching eleven straight hours of the Weather Channel.

SUNDAY:
I'm having the Church van pick me up for services today so I can go and thank GOD that this week is over. I will also pray that next year my daughter (the little shit) will choose a gift for me that is fun – like a root canal or a hysterectomy. I still say if God had wanted me to bend over, he would have sprinkled the floor with diamonds!!!

Chef Tips
  • We renovated Sloppy Joes by:
    • Substituting olive oil for butter — and using less.

    • Using lean ground turkey instead of beef.

    • Adding vegetables to boost the nutritional value of the meal.

    • Choosing mixed-grain hamburger rolls instead of regular to get more fiber.

Metamucil

Good morning!

I'm trying to purge myself of all that nasty goodness I ate over the weekend.  Since I hadn't been to the bathroom yet I decided to give myself a mini cleansing by taking Metamucil fibre capsules.  I've followed the directions, taking 5, 3 times per day, but have yet to seen any results.  What the heck is up with that?  I STILL haven't received my colon cleansing kit either.  Maybe God is trying to tell me something...

Anyway, I ate on plan yesterday.  I even tried out a WW recipe for turkey sloppy joes.  It was REALLY good, and it was only 5 points.  I also did my weight training and C25K Week 6, Day 1.  Yes, ladies, I am a JOGGER.  Yee haw!

Enjoy your day!

Rough Weekend for the Waistline

Good morning!

Indeed, I went overboard this weekend.  Darn birthdays!  I was up 0.6 lbs for my WW weigh-in.  Oh, well.  I'm back on the old wagon this morning.  Weekdays are so much simpler to control!

Next weekend will be another challenge. We're going to a neighborhood potluck Christmas party next Sunday where alcohol and food ABOUND.  I think I'll bring some bottled water to curb the wine consumption.

Okay, I'm getting off my butt now:  my weights, treadmill and stationery bike await.  Enjoy the start of a brand new week!

Planning for the weekend

Good morning!

It's Friday!  Woo hoo!  Another busy weekend ahead:  ringette practice, Santa Breakfast, Birthday Supper tomorrow; Sunday it's off to the arena once again for a ringette game, then supper at the in-laws.

Tomorrow night's supper is at a szechuan restaurant, so I planned my WW points ahead of time in order to eat my favorite dishes.  I also did some stationery bike and interval training on the treadmill all week so I'd have enough activity points to indulge.  I'm hoping to blog good news Monday morning.  Wish me luck!

I never received the colon cleanse I ordered last week.  I was all set for my 2-day fast, even postponing my blood test scheduled for this morning.  Crap!

Enjoy your weekend!

TOM

Good morning!

TOM - where the hell did HE come from?  I have been completely blindsided - no cramps, back pain, excess energy, nor irrational irritability (sp?).  Ugh!

I stayed within my points yesterday - I even treated myself to a Jello SugarFree Caramel pudding for dessert.  So far I've kept my promise of limiting my consumption of red wine to one glass per weekday.  Yay!

I watched TBL last night - I can't wait for the finale!

Enjoy your day!

Be Prepared!

Good morning!

"Be Prepared" - that old Girl Guide addage came to mind this morning as I loaded up my office fridge with today's wrap and grapes, baggies of celery and carrots for the week, and enough Activia yogurt to last through Friday.  I also brought in apples, bananas, almonds, and cans of V8.  When I get hungry, there are only healthy options to choose from.

Since joining Weight Watchers online last week, I also plan my whole day's eating well in advance - often the night before.  As long as I stick to my guns, I can fulfill the promise I make to myself to keep within my points allocation.  If I want to eat more, I have to EXERCISE.  Once my foot fully heals, I'll be back to my fitness program by Monday.  Today I'll try for a little biking and walking so I can keep my weekly points for Saturday.

One last thing about being prepared for weight loss success, I also take my workout clothes out the night before.  Since I train at work, I only change into my regular clothes AFTER I've worked out.  Given my workout bras aren't the most comfortable things to wear, I try to get my exercise done early in the day.

Enjoy your day!

Mommy's B-Day!

Good afternoon!

I took my Mom to lunch for her birthday today and managed to eat pretty well.  I was tempted to let loose but settled on liver, salad and veggies.  Whew!  Unfortunately I won't be having my wine tonight, as we had a glass at lunch.

My ankle is feeling much better today, thank heavens!  I'm anxious to get back to my regular exercise routine.

I'm still waiting for my colon cleanser kit to arrive - I was hoping to start the 2-day fast tomorrow.  Ugh!
