Before After

I KNEW IT!!!!

After an 8.5 week absence...TOM arrived 10 minutes ago!!  Something told me I would start today - or next Sunday after the Zoo Zoom (which would have really sucked).  Anyway - I am sort of glad it finally showed up, although I can already tell I am going to have some killer cramps.  Man...I can hardly believe it - I guess I didn't leave it at the bottom of the world!!

Race Report - Cambridge 5 Mile CityRun

Well - I DID IT!!!!  I ran in my first race today, and I am pretty damn proud of myself.

My official photographer (Jerel) snapped this photo of me prior to the start of the race.

It was COLD and WINDY!!  If I hadn't had actually registered I probably would have skipped it, but since I also knew I had friends from work there I had to show up.  It was 32 degrees with the wind chill, so I decided to keep my fleece on.  However, about 2 miles into the race when I was so hot I decided that might not have been the best idea.

When the race started I immediately lost track of my 4 coworkers.  I had no idea where they went to.  The beginning wasn't too bad - I didn't feel like anyone was going to run me over.  I felt the first mile went by really quickly - and I did walk some of it.  We were running in a residential area on the road, and there were bits of rock everywhere and I didn't want to turn an ankle.  There was someone calling out your pace as you went by the first mile and mine was 12:25.  I've never run a mile that quickly.  Of course - by the time mile 2 was passed I was at 25:30.  I think mile 3 was 38 something - and there wasn't anyone at mile 4.  Geesh!  Anyway, I finished in 1:07:20 (13:28 pace).  I'm sure anyone who doesn't know me is probably thinking that's nothing to get excited about - but I know that friggin' ROCKS!!  Here is a photo of me running into the finish chute:

Who would have EVER thought I would actually be a RUNNER????  I am proof that you CAN do ANYTHING you set your mind to.

Friday!!

Hmmmm.  My first post in April.  This week has definitely flown by.  And with the new month I will be giving up the "Travel Girl" in the subject line.  Too damn annoying and I'm tired of it.

So.  Overall this has been a good week.  I was feeling fairly crappy on Monday so I didn't go to BURN, but I did see Tara on Tuesday morning.  I took Wednesday & Thursday off from working out - although yesterday I did a lot of walking.  I usually workout on Thursdays, but decided to get a pedicure instead.  Hey - I need to have nice toes for running in my very first race on Sunday!  Plus, I couldn't get an appointment with my girl next week - and since I'm going out to CA for the Zoo Zoom - well, I needed one.

This morning I saw my new (additional) trainer Jane and had a heck of a workout.  We did lots of drills and exercises that are helping me with my running.  She pretty much kicked my ass.  Luckily I'm taking tomorrow off before the race on Sunday.

Speaking of races, for those of you who watch The Biggest Loser, at the end of the last episode Jay mentioned he was trying to organize a race for the Beckwith-Wiedemann Children's Foundation, a disorder his daughter has.  Well, since he lives in the area I started looking to see if the race has been scheduled yet.  His wife wrote to me yesterday to let me know they are still trying to get things organized and will keep me updated.  I'll let you all know if I get to meet Jay and Mark!

I will check in after the race on Sunday.  That is, if I am able to move.  Have a great weekend!!

Travel Girl Posts

Sigh.  I've been a bad blogger.  I have good intentions of posting, but then somehow the day goes by and when I get home at night I'm too tired to even think about writing.  This week might be better since my boss is on vacation.

I stuck to my JC plan pretty well last week and was down 2.1 lbs at my weigh-in on Saturday.  Hopefully this will be another losing week and I can finally get closer to being out of the 190's.  I do feel like TOM is trying to make an appearance - Wednesday will be 8 weeks since my last one.  I did take a pregnancy test on Saturday night just to make sure, and it was negative.

This coming Sunday is my first official race - the Cambridge CityRun.  A few girls from the office will be joining me so I won't have to be all alone.  I don't know if I'm really ready for it since I haven't been running outside at all - still way too cold here for me.  It's supposed to be 52 on Wednesday, so that may be an opportunity to get outside.

Congratulations to txlass and readytochange on completing their 10K in Austin!

Travel Girl is Feeling Awesome

Today was a great day - I recognized a couple of behaviors that may have been the reason why the scale hasn't moved lately.

I used to always go out and get my salad at 11:30 to beat the lunch rush, but when I was eating the Think Thin bars I wasn't hungry, and if I had work to do then I wouldn't go get my salad.  Around 1:00 pm I would be hungry, so I would eat some almonds because the microwave is in high demand until 1:30 or so.  Today I made sure to go and get my salad at 11:30 even though I had to stop working on a presentation.  (I put the almonds in my desk drawer so I wouldn't be tempted to eat them.)

I also had regular coffee with some half & half rather than my usual nonfat latte.  I made sure to check off what I had eaten during the day on my JC menu, as well as track everything at The Daily Plate.

Tonight I did 30 minutes of strength training before my BURN running class.  When I got home Jerel already had some brussel sprouts roasting to have with dinner.  I'm getting ready to have my last snack of the day and then head to bed.

By the way...I don't think I've mentioned that TOM is 3 weeks late as of Wednesday.  As some of you know my cycle has been crazy the last few months - showing up a week early or a week late.  Well, this is the latest it has ever been - and when I say ever, I do mean ever!  I think menopause has arrived.  If it doesn't show up in the next couple of weeks I will ask my doctor for a blood test to check my hormone levels.  (And no...I don't think I'm pregnant either!)

Hope everyone has had a great day!!

Travel Girl is Still Here!

Wow...a week has gone by since my last post.  Thank you all so much for your kind comments on my comparison photos.  Subtle changes, but changes none the less!

Last week was crazy with work, going to the gym, etc. etc.  The good news is the girl who I thought was going to leave - did leave!!  I am going to take over most of her job duties, which is in business development, so I am psyched!  This week will be very busy too, because the group admin will be out Tuesday - Friday so I have to cover for her.

Nothing good to report on the weight loss front.  Today I started JC Planned Week One to see if I can get the scale moving down again.  I think I already figured out the problem though - I've been eating too many fat grams.  The protein bars I've been eating the past few months have 8 grams of fat vs. the JC bars with 3 grams.  I also went down to 1200 calories instead of the 1500 I've been on almost forever.  If this doesn't work, well, I guess I'll have to find another plan.

We went and had our taxes finished yesterday, and afterward visited Jerel's grandmother, and did some shopping at the Natick collection.  I got some workout tops that were on sale at Nordstrom, a couple pairs of dress pants from Talbot and a twinset that was on sale.

Tara is on vacation in Florida this week, so on Wednesday I'm having a training session with Jane, who is actually the Director of Fitness at my gym.  She has a background in running, so she's going to evaluate my running technique.  The Cambridge CityRun is 2 weeks from today, and the Zoo Zoom is in 3 weeks.  I need to get on the ball or I'm really going to embarass myself in front of my friends, and in front of Shelley and RBR - that would NOT be cool.

Anyway, that's a quick summary of my week.  I will try to post more often - I've just been so tired by the time I get home I don't even want to think about logging into the computer.

Hope everyone is doing well - have a fantastic week!

Travel Girl Shows Why The Scale Doesn't Matter

As my loyal readers know, I've been stuck in the 190's since the end of October, mostly between 194 - 198.  I was down to 192 before our trip in December, but that's the lowest and I haven't gotten back there yet.  Well, take a look at the pictures below.  Even if the scale isn't moving, I have lost inches and clothing sizes, and the proof is below.  The photo on the left is from January and the one on the right is from last night.

Yes, those are my size 10 jeans!

So, don't be discouraged if the scale isn't moving.  Keep eating right and most importantly keep on exercising, because a toned body is a smaller body!

Travel Girl is The Unsung Hero

That's right my friends...I have been working pretty much all weekend fielding emails and setting up conference calls - with the exception of about 4 hours today when I did some shopping and had my hair done, and went out for dinner with my wonderful husband.  Anyway, my boss told me I was the unsung hero for being there during the biggest crisis my department has ever had in my 3 years - actually, there has never been a crisis like this one.  Long story short - we need to have a plan in place to recall any securities we have lent to Bear Stearns on our clients behalf if they file for bankruptcy on Monday.

Back to the real reason this blog exists...I was down 1.8 lbs today.  I am pretty happy with that...hopefully the scale will continue to move down.  I really want to get out of the 190's.  I'm not complaining though, because I wore my size 10 jeans today and they are actually getting big in the rear and legs.  In fact, I tried on a pair of 8's at Talbots - I could get them up, and almost zipped and buttoned.

After my little shopping adventure I had my hair cut and colored.  I decided it was time for a change, so my hair is a little lighter and we did more highlights than before.  I took a couple of photos tonight and will upload them tomorrow.

I wasn't able to get to the gym today, but I think it's supposed to be clear and somewhat warm tomorrow, so I'm planning on running in the morning.  Of course, I may end up actually having to go into the office tomorrow.  Hopefully I won't have to - working from home is just fine!

Hope you're all having a great weekend!

Travel Girl Checks In

Hey everyone...just wanted to let you all know I'm okay.  This has been a crazy week, and with everything going on with Bear Stearns and the market today it's just gotten worse.  I don't know when I've ever been so happy to see the weekend.

Cross your fingers...I think the person that I thought was leaving may have just given her notice, which would be awesome for me.

My workout plan went fine for the first couple of days this week, but didn't make it to the gym on Wednesday or Thursday.  I'm hoping to get there tonight depending on how the rest of the afternoon goes.  Eating has been good, although I did eat off plan on Wednesday night.  Crabcakes, a hamburger (no bun) and some fries.

Tomorrow I have Pilates and I'm getting my hair done, so I'll try and get a new picture taken.

Anyway, I apologize for not posting - hope you're all doing well!

Travel Girl Puts Out a Contract

That's right...I've put out a contract on myself to lose this last 37 lbs over at Stickk.  It's a website where you make any kind of commitment, choose a referee and add friends to be notified of your progress.  You can put money on it too, but I didn't do that.  Jerel heard about it from NPR, and I thought it was a great idea.

Today was my first day sticking to the JC plan 100% (in a long time), and it has gone really well.  I had a salad at lunch and lots of roasted veggies with dinner.  I'm feeling great and really motivated to get to my goal.

I cleaned out my closet and drawers today.  I had plenty of things to get rid of - some shirts that were too big, the Ann Taylor Loft pants I bought back in October (size 14), etc.  txlass - I have some things for you!

My workout goals for this week are:

  • Monday - BURN
  • Tuesday - personal training with Tara
  • Wednesday - run (hopefully outside)
  • Thursday - strength training
  • Friday - run
  • Saturday - strength training, Pilates

Hope everyone has had a great weekend and is ready for another successful week!!
