Well - I DID IT!!!! I ran in my first race today, and I am pretty damn proud of myself.
My official photographer (Jerel) snapped this photo of me prior to the start of the race.
It was COLD and WINDY!! If I hadn't had actually registered I probably would have skipped it, but since I also knew I had friends from work there I had to show up. It was 32 degrees with the wind chill, so I decided to keep my fleece on. However, about 2 miles into the race when I was so hot I decided that might not have been the best idea.
When the race started I immediately lost track of my 4 coworkers. I had no idea where they went to. The beginning wasn't too bad - I didn't feel like anyone was going to run me over. I felt the first mile went by really quickly - and I did walk some of it. We were running in a residential area on the road, and there were bits of rock everywhere and I didn't want to turn an ankle. There was someone calling out your pace as you went by the first mile and mine was 12:25. I've never run a mile that quickly. Of course - by the time mile 2 was passed I was at 25:30. I think mile 3 was 38 something - and there wasn't anyone at mile 4. Geesh! Anyway, I finished in 1:07:20 (13:28 pace). I'm sure anyone who doesn't know me is probably thinking that's nothing to get excited about - but I know that friggin' ROCKS!! Here is a photo of me running into the finish chute:
Who would have EVER thought I would actually be a RUNNER???? I am proof that you CAN do ANYTHING you set your mind to.

So friggin' awesome!
What a great run and a great pace! yeah, I have fallen victim to the "it's cold I don't want to take off my fleece" thing and then sweated it out after about 1/2 mile and had to end up tying it around my waist. Of course, I am a wimpy Californian and I will do this at about 50 degrees!
You look ADORABLE and I LOVE, L-O-V-E your hat! I am so excited for next weekend!
They say the difference between a jogger and a runner is a race number, look at you, you are a runner baby!
My name is Trish - I haven't "met" you before, but wow, that is a serious run, and especially for your first race. You truly are an inspiration - hard not to repeat what everyone else is saying, but congratulations, you are amazing!!!!
I missed this because I didn't go down far enough on my Google Reader! Awesome!!!! Way to go...thats a really great pace, Andrea!!! It won't be as cold here next week, so you won't need that fleece! I'm so proud of you!
What an awesome accomplishment! Nothing feels better than doing something you never dreamt would be possible. I bet you are on top of the world and on fire!
Wow Andrea! I think you're soooo awesome for finishing the race. And I know your pace was excellent. I must say, you looked amazing at the beginning AND the end. That's such an accomplishment, and I'm sooo proud of you!
