Had two unexpected root canals in a week.

I opened the box, put the scale on the floor and got on. 272. One pound down from last doctor's visit. Oliver weighed in at 16 pounds (my bichon) and Chrissie weighed in at 7 pounds (my coton de tulear pup).
This is the first time I've had a scale in my house in 3 years. I'm facing the music.
I bought a scale to weigh myself with this past weekend.
It's still in its box....
My friend Carole recommended I try this site. So here goes.
I'm 49 years old, and have struggled with my weight ever since I was a child. At age 6, I was very aware of my fat body image, but in real life, I wasn't fat. I was a normal looking kid.
In high school, I was at my thinnest. At graduation, I was 123 pounds, and I felt like the fattest cow. I've always hated my body.
Now that I'm mature, and have lived a lot of life, I learned that there's something called body dysmorphic disorder. I really suffered from this, and wish that I had positive feedback and role models back then. Instead, I've just gained and gained and gained.
I figured, if I lose weight, what's the big deal? I will still feel horrible about my body. Now at 273 pounds, and the weight is shifting with gravity, I feel helpless. I feel like there is no hope for me except to turn to the drastic measure of getting the lapband surgery.
This past fall, I met with the lapband psychologist, did all the pre-op exams, and attended the lapband class. As a result of the pre-op exams, the doctors found a huge gallstone, and I had to have my gallbladder out in January.
After having surgery, and feeling rotten for weeks during recovery, I balk at the option of going back under the knife for the lapband.
Is there a way to get the weight off naturally?
In a nutshell...that's why I'm here.
