TEMPORARY INSANITY

Weight: 164

Week by week really isn't very thrilling - once a month update seems much better or updating when I actually have something to say! No weight loss this week and I'm not even going to bother measuring. Let's talk about self-sabotage and overindulgence. Last Friday, I went out with my friends and had drinks. At the end of the night, I ate a couple bites of a Quarter Pounder with cheese and a handful of fries. Not bad, right? Well, if it would have stopped there, it wouldn't have been bad...BUT...when I woke up, I was weak and my stomach wasn't 100% so I turned to comfort food to help...sandwich, noodles...and it worked.  OK, so lesson learned - no harm, no foul, right? Wrong...I went to my mom's the next day (Sunday) and while we were cooking, I saw some cookies...you know, those nice, soft chewy chocolate chip cookies. I was like a junkie in a crack house!  Down went a couple cookies with a cheetoh chaser! Holy shit! Get a grip Fatty!!!! After my quick fix, I did return to reality and then behaved from then on. Monday morning, I weighed in at 166 but have returned to 164 and hopefully even lower by next Monday.

One slip is ok, a couple slips sucks but you can still live with it...an all weekend carbohydrate hog-fest is not good. Lesson learned: once you screw up, just get back on it...even if it's within the same day. Why do I self-sabotage? Why do I do this when my weight starts going under that 165 mark? Do I secretly like being a chubster?? Do I need to attend Fat Ass Anonymous (no relationship to Overeaters Anonymous which I'm sure has helped lots of people with eating disorders - I don't need that, I need a muzzle and a kick in the ass).

Anyway, I have stepped off the Crazy Train for now and refocused. Temporary Insanity....Ain't it a bitch???

DIET

I am following the Atkins induction concept. I try to keep my carbs under 20g a day and avoid sugar. My drinks are limited to diet soda and water (oh, except for the yummy mango daquiri!). A typical day would be:

Breakfast:

Atkins bar

Lunch:

Tuna and mayo on a low carb tortilla w/pork rinds

Dinner:

Chicken wings w/Ranch dressing

I just found a great store called Diabetic Design.  They have a bunch of sugar free low carb/carb free products. You can actually order online from them if they don't have a store in your area at www.DiabeticDesign.com . I haven't tried everything that I bought there but when I have some time, I'm going to post some product reviews on some other low carb friendly food and restaurants. I have a lot of different ideas for low carbing it which I will post later as well...low carb doesn't have to be boring and it's not just eggs and pork rinds every day!  For a ton of recipes, you can go to www.lowcarbcafe.com and search.  For me, I like the instant, fast stuff. As I tell the kids, it's homemade because I made it at home and that's all that matters.

I had someone contact me via email to encourage and remind me of VEGGIES, VEGGIES, VEGGIES!  The big part of this for me is that I don't get enough fiber therefore I don't poop (yes I said poop - we're all adults, right? Oh, I guess in that case, I should have said BM...ANYWAY you get the point) as much as I should which may or may not lead to problems down the road...obviously because I don't eat many veggies...salads, avocados, but that's about it unless I'm out at a restaurant, then it's grilled veggies for sides.  Anyway, the person that emailed me gave me some very good information so I thought that I would share with you.

I've done Atkins in the past.  It worked wonders for me...BUT make sure that you're eating vegetables!!  I noticed that your diet you described included a lot of protein and fat, but you MUST MUST MUST eat your veggies too, atleast 1 1/2-2 cups per day.  You need to make up for the vitamins and minerals you are missing by not eating any carbs.  I would also recommend that you take a potassium supplement. I've had great successon this diet before (lost over 30 pounds and kept it off for 2 years, until recently), but sometimes I would get pains in my lower back (kidneys) because I wasn't eating enough veggies and was lacking potassium.  Just try to throw some veggies into atleast your lunch AND dinner.  I promise, it's so much healthier, and you will still lose the weight...but you will feel better because your body does need the good carbs and FIBER that are in green veggies like spinach, broccoli, etc.  Good luck!!

Also, someone asked me where I find the Atkins products. At any grocery store, the low carb bars and shakes should be by the vitamins. Wal-mart has them and there's one of those in every neighborhood - whether the residents want it there or not!  I would imagine that any major grocery store chain would carry the low carb shakes..and it doesn't have to be Atkins brand. As far as diet shakes, those don't work for me..in my opinion, a shake is something to wash a meal down with!

Thanks to all that contact me with questions and tips and encouragement.  We can all do this!!

WEEK FOUR

Weight: 164 lbs

Waist: 33"

Hips:  46"

Thighs:  23"

Down one more pound...slowly but surely moving in the right direction although I think that my realistic goal should be 145 instead of the 130's.  I didn't work out at all last week..had my period and was feeling down (I know... excuses, excuses). I am doing Low Intensity Cardio and Strength and Sculpt this week to get me back in the groove. I have to admit that the High Intensity Cardio and Boot Camp were tough and I really didn't have to dig too deep to find an excuse not to do it.  Today, I'm changing my target goal for June to 145...more realistic and I won't be so discouraged.  After I've reached that goal, I'll set another goal for possibly 135 but face it, I'm 36 yrs old mother of 3...is it realistic to try to look like a 20 yr old hottie? It seems to be much harder to lose the weight now..really have to work at it now. I have been faithful to my low carb eating except that I had a Mango Daquiri this weekend...just one..and it was goooood.

OK, fatty is signing off until next week!

WEEK THREE

Weight: 165 lbs

Waist: 33"

Hips:  46"

Thighs:  23"

Bittersweet...I guess that my whipped cream was holding my weight loss back.  I gave it up and my weight is going back down!

WEEK TWO

Weight: 168 lbs

Waist: 33"

Hips:  46"

Thighs:  23"

I'm so damn frustrated!!!!  The kids were on Spring Break last week so I didn't do my daily workouts...only worked out on Monday and Tuesday and then went to Six Flags with the kids on Tuesday and Wednesday so I thought that would help out since we walked all day. I am UP...YES UP.. a pound this week...down 1" on the waist but stayed the same on the rest of the measurements. I stuck to my low carb eating but I just keep bouncing from 165-168 lbs and not going below that and this has been going on for close to a month now.  I'm so damn frustrated that I just feel like throwing in the towel, putting on a bib and going on a major binge.  I have made the decision to quit using Land O' Lakes Sugar Free Heavy Whipped Cream (like Redi-Whip) on my Low Carb Cappucino and Sugar Free Jello.  I think that it might be a hinderance to the weight loss - ok, let's be honest, even though it's carb free, I was basically consuming probably close to 3 cups of the stuff a day...I'm truly addicted to it.   I'm going to try to stick to the plan because something has to give right??? With the absence of my favorite treat in the entire world, let's see if it makes a difference for next week.

WEEK ONE

3/13/06

Height: 5' 1"

Weight: 167 lbs

Waist: 34"

Hips:  46"

Thighs:  23"

Down 2 lbs, 1" in each area. I stuck to my workout and low carb eating all week and I see a little bit of results.  The workouts on the first couple of days left me very sore but by the end of the week, they were much easier.  This week will be High Intensity Cardio and Boot Camp plus it's the kids' Spring Break so hopefully I'l be able to stick to my workout routine!!

First Official Weigh In and Measurements

3/6/06

Height: 5' 1"

Weight: 169 lbs

Waist: 35"

Hips:  47"

Thighs: 24"

The Biggest Loser Workout DVD

I bought this exercise video because I previously bought Denise Austin's Pilates workout and was completely bored, not to mention that I can't lift my body weight the way that little petite Denise can.  Someone suggested that I try the Biggest Loser one and I also visited a website  for workout videos that has a search feature for what type of workout, level, tells you the complexity of the moves and even gives you a 60 second preview of the DVD. Go to www.collagevideo.com .

So far so good on the BL DVD. It has custom workouts and also a 6 week workout plan - 6 days a week alternating workouts:

Weeks 1 & 3: Low Intensity Cardio and Strength & Sculpt

Weeks 2 & 4: High Intensity Cardio and Boot Camp

They didn't specify weeks 5 & 6 but called it a 6 week plan...I guess that they assume that you know what to do from week 4??

I enjoyed today (Low Intensity Cardio) although it was a little harder than I thought.  I just assumed that it would be a piece of cake since it's other chubsters but I guess that I'm more out of shape than I thought!

I will only be weighing in every Monday and I'm also going to do measurements at this time. I have been a slave to the scale and when I see it go up a pound or two, I get discouraged and eat...lose/lose situation but not in the right way!

Tomorrow - Strength and Sculpt!! I'm looking forward to it.

Atkins..AGAIN!

I've been doing Atkins off and on for about 5 years (more off than on!!) and I started Atkins (again) on 2/8 and hope to be down to 130 lbs by June 1st (A girl can dream, can't she???).  140 is probably more realistic but 130 would be ideal.

I was doing well on Atkins until 3 days ago. I was down 9 lbs in 10 days but 'the plumbing was a little backed up' as it tends to do on Atkins so I had a bright idea...I would incorporate some carbs in for the day and then maybe that would set things straight and I would continue weight loss. BAD IDEA!  I started with a couple of breaded chicken strips and next thing you know I was devouring a brownie and the carb frenzy is a blur from there. I weighed in the next morning and GAINED FOUR POUNDS! Yesterday, I got back on the 'plan' and I'm down a pound today - back in the right direction. A minor setback...life's full of them.

There are so many sites and information on the net but the one that I've found that I enjoy the most at this point is www.lowcarbcafe.com .  Very nice, very helpful people and lots of tips and recipes to keep you low carbing!

Leading up to today

As a young adult, pre-kids, I weighed 125-130 lbs. With my twins, I gained 80 lbs and lost most of it.  With my third child, I ballooned up over 200 lbs and just continued to grow from there.

With my lap band, my lowest weight was 155 lbs which I reached in the first half of 2005. I was eating right and working out 3 times a week with a co-worker. I quit working in May 2005 and had gained 18.5 pounds. I find it very difficult to get motivated to work out by myself and easier to snack while home.  I bought a Pilates video and attempt to do it at least a couple times a week but I'm really trying to get back on a Mon-Wed-Fri cardio workout schedule again.

As you know, you always start diets/workout schedules on Mondays and today is a holiday so I can't start today, right??

I joined a local city recreation center to use their work-out equipment.  It's only $50 for the entire year and they have all of the basic workout equipment that I need.  Plus who really wants to join a 'Major Health Club chain', pay unreasonable dues and work out around a bunch of people who are already fit and thin!!??! At the city rec center, it's generally seniors and moms trying to take off their baby weight - now that's more my speed - being around people who hear clapping and they know that it's my thighs slapping and not someone applauding their new thong bodysuit painted on top of their skin tight leotard!!
