Running

Just a quick update.  I've decided to take a hiatus from running.  I love it!  But it hurts!  Everytime I start getting consisten with my training and adding mileage, the shin splints come back.  It's not the shoes.  And really, it's not just shin splints.  It's knees and ankles and hips.

I've decided that I will stop for a while until I'm lighter.  All that weight is really dragging me down, literally.  And the pain is just not worth it.  I could risk further injury, so I'll just skip to walking for now.

That being said, I do still jog occasionally.  I just can't do it consistently.  When I go out for my walks, I add some running intervals.  But only when I'm feeling no pain.  It's good to have that balance!

For strength training, I'm doing ChaLean Extreme.  That is NO JOKE!  It's tough!  Her motto is lift heavy or go home.  So you choose really heavy weights, do fewer reps, and get faster results.  I just started yesterday, though, on that!

Anyway, just wanted to give a quick update.

good luck

I'm glad you're listening to your body.  It's much better to do that and be successful in the long run, than push too hard and end  up really hurt and facing a long time of no activity.

= )

So GOOD to see you = )

It is smart to listen to your body. If mine complains during training, I'm going to dial it back.  My goal is to complete the race healthy!

Very cool on shaking things up with ChaLean!  I did the first day of 30-day shred this morning and realize how "weak" I truly am.

One day at a time, no?

xoxo

hey girl

I hope you can get back to running when it feels good again!!! Missed your posts! Glad to see an update!!!!

. . .

hey angela - you need to do what works for you.  if running isn't it right now, then running isn't it.  honestly, i run for the social aspects, not for the speed anymore :)  it's better on my body, legs, and knees.

i <3 shaleen!  i've been doing a lot of turbo jam lately on off days.  i've been wondering how her new "extreme" workout is.  please keep me updated on how you like it!

hey bud

glad to hear that you are doing well.  i am starting to feel the pressure of my extra poundage too.  i do the jilliam workouts in the morning and some parts i cannot do because my knees are not as strong as they used to be.  chalean extreme sounds challenging. i am such a wus when it comes to weight training. i am glad you posted.  have a great day!

Listen to your body

I know you love running but..you know how to listen to your body and your body is just telling ya that running hurts it =/ Like you said, perhaps when you're lighter the impact will hurt you less.

Glad to see you update this blog once in a while ;) I kinda SORTA miss you! hihi

Take care and keep on moving xoxox

"keep on keep on keep on keep on moooooooooooving" ..OH NO what a corny song...lol..

:)

So great to see you on here :)
I am glad you are listening to your body.  I am definitely losing some of my excess baggage before I try running again!

Gotta listen...

Gotta listen to yourself, however much you don't want to ;)

Happy birthday for tomorrow (today) ...

Have an awesome day :)

.

Good to hear from you, girlie!  Sorry to hear about the running, but it makes sense:  if it HURTS don't do it.  Discomfort is ok, pain is not.

(( HUGS ))

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

EAT A CUPCAKE FOR ME! LOL.

Hey!

Take care of yourself! :) I'm back!

Hola!!

I'm back and I'm checking up on you too.  Keep up the awesome work you are doing!!  Thinking of you!!

Jenn

P.S.  Mackenzie just turned 3 yesterday.  How did our little ones get big so quickly?!?!?

:)

how are the shinsplints treating you? i hope thay you are having a great week?

ouch

Shin splints are the worst . . . but there are definitely other ways to get the workouts in.  It seems like you're definitely doing the mental work that goes alongside all the physical changes, which is awesome.

Shame

Sorry to hear about the shin splints - that's really sore, I know!  In all seriousness, I wouldn't run at all until you're sure that they're really gone, otherwise they'll just keep coming back.  Sad, but true ...

It's great that you're doing other things rather than losing motivation - something I'm definitely not good at, and could learn from you!

Thinking about you

You were always there to remind me to update my blog and now I'm doing it for you!  Update when you can!

Jenn

hey you

I love the interval training alternative, according to all kinds of magazines and stuff, interval training is best anyways.

As for heavy lifting, thanks for the new idea. I never really thought of it like that!
