Before After

My 3rd 5K and DH's First

Wow I can't believe I have ran 3 5K's so far never in a million years would I have thought to eventually become a runner.

Well last Sunday me and my DH ran in the Race for the Kids 5K. It was a race to support the kids in Latin America. I must admit when I first went out to the race I felt out of place because there are not that many African Americans who run, well at least there weren't that many at this particular race I could count on one hand including me and my DH how many were there. Anyhow I didn't let that get the best of me nor did my DH.

The race started 5 min late but it wasn't a big deal. This race we used different timing chips which we put on our shoes. I didn't too much care for it because I the timing was not accurate the timing chip said we finished at 38:05 however our Garmin and Polar stop watched said we finished @ 37:00. Due to the fact that was a new timing system I'm not going by that time, I think it still has some issues to be worked out. The point is that we finished. I think our timing was pretty decent considering neither of us properly trained. I wanted to beat my personal record of 35 min but since this was my DH's first 5K I decided to stick by his side so with that we took a few walk breaks in between the race. The first two miles were easy but that last mile seem to have taken forever. I enjoyed myeself, some parts of the race was along the beach and it was such beautiful scenery. As far as my DH is concerend he has a new respect for runners and is now hooked.

As far as future races I would at leat like to run in a 5K every month. I would like to run in the Race For The Cure this month on th e18 but I have to work , maybe I'll get someone to switch with me. We also want to run in the Turkey Trot 5K/10K on Thanksgiving but I'm not sure if I will have that day off. Anyhow please believe there are many more races to come. I have taken running more seriously now and I've decided to put more pep in my step.

After race day I think me and DH were still so hype that we decided to run/walk another 3 miles! I honesly don't know what we were thinking because we were so sore and running again made it worse but it felt so good, lol! Anyhow today we were suppose to run again but I was catching up on sleep from working 2 twelve hour shifts. For sure we will be running tomorrow.

Treats?

I've been thinking about treating myself to an IPod Nano especially since they have one in purple now, lol. I bought my husband an IPod a while back and now I regret it, lol because I was jeoulous of him beacuse he had some motivation music to use while running, I was old fashion and used my cd player which quit on me in the first 5 mins, lol. I know some people can run without music but music honestly helps motivate me and helps me move faster. My initial plan was to get an IPod once I lost all my weight but that is taking a little longer than planned. I really love the Nano because it has the extra gadgets with NIke Plus not really sure how it works yet but I have heard great things about it, and I have learned that you do not have to by Nike shoes just to enjoy the benefits.

Anyhow my weight has stalled again but it's my fault, I let my DH sabotage my efforts. He recently bought 2 packs of my favorite cookies and he knows they are my favorite but bought them anyway. Lets just say I sabotaged those cookies, lol. Men can't live with them, can't live without them. I have kind of been off my diet all week but plan to make up for it by ending the week strong.

I decided to take my running a little more serious because it's the only way I'll get any better. I plan to run and walk(mostly run) 9 miles a week, meaning 3 days out of the week I need to run 3 miles a day. So far so good. Sticking to the C25k plan is kind of difficult. I just want to get out there and run, and if I need a walk break so be it. So as of now I'm just doing my own thing and if that doesn't work I'll go back to some sort of structured plan.

Well I think I've written more than enough.

Until next time much love!

Awesome!!

Glad you and dh enjoyed your run together!  That's so cool!  BF and me don't do that.  We walk, been on a bike ride, but no running.  That's ok for now LOL!!

Have a great weekend and keep up the great efforts!!

Congrats!

Congrats on your races =)  I'm glad you found a good physical outlet that you enjoy.

Way to go!

COngrats on races and running! I have been doing triathlons this last year but am really working on my run (wog) now. I do as many 5ks as I can although you both have me beat big time with the times! My "run" is about the same or slower than most peoples walks. But I just keep on trudging along. I do the same thing you did when I get to races ... look for people similar to me - which means obese people. I can usually ount those on one hand also. But then I remember I am there for myself and for any family and/or friends I manage to entice or bribe or nag into going with me LOL!

I joined our local running group. They meet 3 times a week and have beginner, intermediate, and fast groups. I am at the back of the beginner pack but improving. Maybe there is a running group you could check out if you're interested.

I have a 3 mile race tomorrow evening. Problem is its an Oktoberfest race at the local Budweiser plant lol. So lots of beer and sausages. So need to not eat ... or drink ... more than I burnt during race  haha

I got me a nano when I lost 50 pounds. You should definitely get one! I need to get one of those Nike attachment thingys too!

Keep putting one foot in front of the other  ...

I think you

deserve that purple nano!  Even if your weight has stalled I think you look thinner in your pics....sometimes it is not all about the number on the scale!

hi there!

First let me get this out of the way by saying what a pitiful blogger I have been, and you have been commenting all over my blog here, and the other one.  FOr that, I am sorry!

Second, congrats on your 3rd 5K, and getting your hubby to do one.  I've been trying to get my husband on board, but so far he has resisted.  THe only thing he's said about it is "I could do that easy" after an 8K race.  Yeah, right!

Third, now that you got hubby to run with ya, GET HIM SOME RUNNING GEAR, LOL!  :)  That was so nice of him to get the iPod, but boooooo on the cookies.  My hubby will do the same kinda thing!  UGH!
