Whoo hoo!

I'm at 220.0! Thank God! I'm encouraged! I've lost 3.4 lbs. in the past month. That makes me 4.6 lbs. less than my highest recent weight of 224.6 on May 1st. Whoo hoo!

I'm back!

So busy! But I'm popping in to say I lost 2.2 pounds from last week! Whoo hoo!! I went to my doctor's office about a funny, swollen spot on my leg (which had disappeared by the time I got there!!), and the nurse practitioner I saw said that I had edema (swelling, retaining fluid). I've been eating waaay more salty foods in the last couple of months than usual (hot dogs, bologna, salami - foods I usually rarely eat anyway), not drinking enough water, and not getting near enough fruits and veggies. She said I should eat whole foods - like a baked potato rather than chips or french fries, oatmeal rather than sugared cereal, etc. She said I should avoid canned or boxed foods because they are highly processed and full of sodium/salt. I learned from the internet that sodium is not the same as salt and that salt has so much sodium in it, that people think of salt and sodium as the same thing. Anyway, I've been reading labels and discovered I have indeed been having loads of sodium. So I've been trying to be careful with what I eat and trying to drink 8 (8-ounce) glasses of water a day. I only did the 8 glasses one day, but I've been trying hard the other days, too. The general swelling in my legs lately has come down, thank God! It's so encouraging to see the scale move, too! I need to lose weight so very much. I have severe pain in my foot (plantar fasciitis, which is not the same as plantar warts), and I'm sure it would be better if I didn't have almost 100 extra pounds for my feet to carry!

I'm going to be really careful what I eat and drink this next week. Hope  you all have a great week!

Thanks!

Thanks for all your comments and encouragement!! It was wonderful to see so many welcome me to this site right away!

Yes, I've gained even since last week. I think it's the sweetened iced tea! It just seems more refreshing to me when the weather turns hot than water does. And I actually thought I'd lost weight! Oh, well. Now to learn and move on, right? Right!

I'll be exceptionally busy the next couple of weeks, so I may not post all that often, if at all, but I will be back and hopefully able to report that I've lost a couple of pounds.

My first post...

Hi, everyone. I found out about this site from a tracker someone placed on their post on a South Beach Diet message board at southbeach-diet-plan.com. I haven't decided what type of weight loss program I'm going to use, but I do know that I need to lose weight and attain a normal, healthy weight. That's why I have this blog.

Here's the deal about weight loss programs. I can't eat sugar-free products (they upset my stomach), I'm supposed to avoid red meat/cheese/eggs/"bad" oils because of high cholesterol, I'm supposed to eat a banana a day because of low potassium levels, and at the moment, I can't even do Curves because of severe  pain in my shoulders and my feet that I'm seeing a doctor and doing physical therapy about. I've looked into vegetarianism to lower the cholesterol, but I don't know how to get enough protein if I don't eat meat/fish/dairy products (I drink skim milk now as a source of protein). I also don't have the money for Weight Watchers or other programs, online or offline, or their prepackaged, frozen dinners (which I would love to be able to use - portion control and no real cooking on my part! LOL!).

I would really love to be at a normal weight for my middle child's high school graduation in two years, and it may well take that long to lose all this extra weight.

I've gained quite a bit recently, and I keep telling myself that others my age (51) have lost weight successfully and kept it off, and that I can, too. At the same time, I crave chocolate, fat, and sweets sooo much!

That's where I'm at right now. Any encouraging words would be appreciated. Thanks!
