No book will make you live a healthy lifestyle, but this has good solid information, excellent explanations (all of the things that the various "plans" miss!) and even a nice shopping guide that is very helpful to me even when not "on a diet." Yes, it's overly precious at points, but I use it more as a reference on a continual basis. It's excellent for that.

The only big loser for me were the recipes. It's shocking how bad they all were. I remade a few of them, but I just find it's easier to make-over a good "regular" recipe and make it fit my diet/nutritional goals than it is to make over a diet recipe into something tasty.

I enjoyed this book - mainly more for the scientific aspect of it. Basically, more explanation as to how and why things are going on with our body. If that is not something you are interested in, then "no" I do not recommend this as an addition to your collection.

This book was full of useful information.  It gave a lot of WHYs.  Like we know we should eat healthy, but what's really going on in that body of ours???  I think it's written in an easy to understand manner.  I somewhat enjoyed the humor.  But maybe I'm strange. Yeah, probably.  :-)

I really wish I could give this book a higher rating.  It does, in fact, contain some very good, comprehensive information about how the human body works.  It's easy to understand.  The problem for me was I simply could not stand the gagging level of cuteness and really lame attempts at humour.  I was given both the hardcover book and the CDs by a friend.  At least with the book, I could skim over the worst parts (really silly cartoon drawings, etc.) but the CDs....arrgh!  I couldn't listen to them.  The two narrators, who are also the writers, were just intolerable to me.

But humour is such an individual thing--I'm sure there are lots of people out there who enjoyed it.  If you can borrow from the library or a friend, give it a try.....but boy, am I glad I didn't spend any money on it!
