Best thing ever
It is a lifestyle change not a diet.
I have been successful 2 times, and on my way to being a lifetime member.
You track points, and eat normal foods, its a brilliant plan.

I love Weight Watchers.  I've been losing very steadily, learning new skills and changing the way my family eats and how active we are.  I get a lot of support from the leaders and from people on the internet.

First, I should say that I believe Weight Watchers is the ONLY plan that really works of the many "plans" out there.

Pros: If you've never lost weight, this is a great place to start.
Con: Unfortunately, if you already know about food science and nutrition (and I mean really - not pseudo-info) it will be way too basic for you, and if you're like me, the misinformation will drive you bonkers.

Pro: It's a place to go that keeps you accountable.
Con: Unless I am accountable to me, I will never lose all of my weight and keep it off.

Pro: Often very helpful topics at meetings
Con: Often not helpful

Let me talk about that last one a bit: WW will be overflowing in January w/ new members and in December, you won't have problems getting a chair. This also goes for the wonderful WW website (I actually think WW online is better than meetings for all but the ease of weighing and the fun of getting "prizes" -- which can be gotten if you join a meeting after being an online member, just so you know.) The problem with that is that the meeting topics are prescribed to be the same everywhere, and in being that, they are also very hit or miss about what YOU need at that moment.

Leaders can be helpful/supportive, but they may not be. They may have only lost 25 lbs and kept it off while you have 150 to lose, and that is a very different thing!

No matter what, I think anyone serious about losing weight should know, like the back of his/her hand, the basics of WW -- because they are, in fact, the basics of ALL good sensible and successful weight loss plans. If I were to get pregnant or be a nursing mom, I'd be back there in a second b/c I don't know as much about losing weight safely in those situations.

For me, I found that starting at WW was wonderful, but eventually I learned to fly on my own, and I've now lost more weight off of WW than I did on. Not because of anything but a change in me. Leaving WW in the past correlated to gaining weight. This time I am very serious (and slow,) but I'm losing weight according to the same principles and it can be done with a fee and a hit-or-miss place to be each week or at home by myself. If I started to feel out of control or confused, I may go back to WW. I just found that it felt like a burden rather than a blessing at a point, and that's when I took what I needed and left the rest there.

Nonetheless, if I was going to pay for any plan, it would be WW. No questions about it. I've done some of the others, and WW was the only "real" one, plus it's the only plan recommended by every doctor I've ever seen.

I did weight watchers.  It was great.  I lost 50 pounds. Once I lost it--couple years later..I regained.
I know I gained weight because I just stopped trying.
Just like everything else..Ya gotta keep trying, going, moving forward.
I stopped because I just couldn't afford it anymore.  Plus, I have to take the bus to get there.

As another "retread" Weight Watchers, I heartily endorse this program for it's sensible eating program, support and tools for maintaining weight loss.  I've attended religiously for a year now and am down 65# total.  But the most important thing I've internalized is the importance of consistency and thinking long term, which Weight Watchers supports.
