Similar to the low- carb Atkins diet in that carbohydrates are heavily restricted. However, in contrast, the South Beach Diets allows low-sugar carbs whilst it bans 'bad' fats. The South Beach Diet is split into 3 phases:

1. Eliminate Cravings and Kickstart Weight Loss.
2. Lose Steadily
3. Maintain for Life.

As dieters progress through the three stages they gradually increased the types of food they are allowed to eat on the plan.

I only lost 3 lbs. the  first 2 weeks so I got  pretty discouraged.

I did this diet and in phase 1 lost alot of weight BUT it was very restricting and had a hard time. Phase 2 of this plan was a little easier but I still struggled and fell off track about 70% of the time.
Never got to phase 3 because I was always retracking my steps on phase 1 or 2.
